Recently I've seen that James Idoine is trying to run for UK Prime Minister for the pro extinction mouvement. If you were in the uk, would you actually vote for the extinction of all life on earth ? Is this goal even remotely attainable through legal ways like the pro extinction mouvement ? It seems to me like there's no way this mouvement will go anywhere if it sticks to ballots and legal actions

Even as a vegan antinatalist, this sort of thing lacks critical thinking. How could anyone bring about ending all sentient life that is both painless, whilst also guaranteeing that there's zero chance of it just redeveloping at a later point? Not to even mention the calls to end current life, as opposed to simply preventing new ones. That alone will prevent any chance of traction for movements such as these and only hinder reducing suffering in any meaningful capacity

The last sentence in this list is shoddily constructed. It is only due to their personal pleasure that they want to reduce harm.

Yeah, they plan on making veganism the law in the uk as part of their program

While I personally agree with you on some points, I saw on their websites a few answers they have to what you said. Firstly, painless extinction is not their priority at all. Their biggest priority is the end of all lives forms on earth as vastly and thoroughly as possible, with little concern for how painless it is. As is written on their website :
  • Rule 1: Cause extinction as vastly as possible.
  • Rule 2: Cause extinction as thoroughly as possible.
  • Rule 3: Cause extinction as painlessly as possible.
Rules 1 and 2 always hold priority over Rule 3, because failing to be vast and thorough will result in much worse suffering in the long run. We must do whatever is necessary to achieve the optimal end.

As for the "guaranteeing that there's zero chance of it redeveloping at a later point", I can't say I've found anything about this on their website, but I personally don't think that its a good argument against their mouvement. If life redevelops, well they've failed, sure, but that happens right ? Like every political mouvement, they can never guarantee success, but they can try their best, idk i feel like that's what matters.

I definitely agree with the mouvement being a bit too extreme to gain any traction, I don't see it going anywhere. Maybe a few suicidals and anti natalist will vote for them but there's no way they even come close to succeeding.

I doubt it'll get anywhere. Even if they wanted to elect a PM, that's not quite how the UK works. They'd need enough local MPs (members of parliament; a congressman, basically) to win so that their party will be elected the government, and whoever the party has chosen to be their leader will be elected PM. It's not America where anyone can run for president if they see fit. We don't even have write-in candidates here, you just have boxes you tick.

All this means that not only will they need a bunch of MP candidates all over the UK (there are 650 MPs currently in the UK, just for the record. Labour, the ruling government, has about 400), but they'll need enough of those MP candidates to be elected as MPs to get a majority government. It's just completely infeasible as far as I can see. They'd be better off just doing demos and other such political action rather than bothering with elections.

I wouldn't support an initiative like this because I try not to project my personal misery onto everyone else, or to assume that my dismal worldview is rooted in objectivity. In fairness, though, I have little knowledge of "pro-extinction" or anti-natalist arguments.

Yeah, I did more research and he thinks suicide is selfish because you only end your own suffering instead of causing total extinction. He claims to be anti-suicide but also anti pro-lifers. He's a real odd guy
The more I read about this mouvement, the less I like it
