So would it be possible to OD on 100 30mg codeine washed down with a litre of vodka? Lethal dose of codeine is meant to be 1gm I believe so that's three times the lethal dose mixed with spirits....
aside from the physical amount of pills that would be (hence why for example tylenol 3 would be preferred over tylenol 1 simply because you can take the same amount in less pills) yeah
Depends on the amount taken. Organ damage from the high dose is possible, and if the mechanism for death is respiratory arrest or similar, brain damage.
3000 mg would be enough I suppose, however (!) keeping 100 tabs of that strength down will be rather challenging. It's a fairly large amount (volume) and your body will try to get rid of the poison (throwing up).
So you would have to use a reliable antiemetic to avoid throwing up most of it.
On top of the pills, the vodka would also be considered a poison and your body will even more likely expel it fast. The amount of liquid will make it easier to bring up both, the alcohol and the dissolving pills.
Probably best to skip the vodka, drink as little liquid as possible and get a good antiemetic.
It doesn't mention lethal dose by what method, so I assume it's injection of 1 gram.
On contrary, from another research
Codeine is a morphine-like opioid with approximately 10% the potency of morphine. It has rapid oral absorption and 90% bioavailability. These features resulted in it previously being used extensively as an oral analgesic (1 mg/kg). Approximately 10% of codeine is metabolized to morphine and thus a considerable amount of its analgesic action is through this mechanism of metabolism. (See Pediatric Anesthesia)
