Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

Lately I've felt like social media isn't for me. I'm really tired of algorithms and people who do things for engagement. I've thought of making a neocities website to pass some time but I have no idea how to code so that's a bit on standby. If anyone could recommend forums and blogs (of any topic) it'd be appreciated :)

I know a lot of cool forums. Most of them are far right probably. I can tell you which ones you'd prefer based off of your interests or requirements, if you tell me those.
forums are so in. i just recently got back into gosupermodel and it's cool and fun (i think the general atmosphere of the site has calmed down since the time it first was brought back, i left pretty quickly after the revival bc i felt the vibe got rather toxic rather quickly) but i do wish for MORE forums!!!!!! especially ones that are really just text-based such as sasu. i would just like to have loads of people on a forum and talk about whatever.blogs are cool too, i have no idea if that scene is alive anymore. i know some blogs, can probably count them with one hand, but once you have connections in that world and readers, it seems like a lot of fun

i do think there's some blog revival happening in the indie web (things like neocities) but that's still a little niche, but yes we need more forums definitely!! platforms that you go to just to talk to people in a smaller space about similar interests, something about it just feels "cozier" to me in a way if that makes sense.
also i actually never heard of gosupermodel before even though i've been really into fashion my whole life, so i'll definitely check it out!! thank you so much for mentioning it.

i should have clarified the reason why i was asking is because i already tried to look for forums but most of them have politics/culture that i can't deal with lol. i was rather thinking of things like music, art, literature, films, history, etc, but i fear it's kind of a dead area of the internet.

hell yea!! i really do think there is a growing interest in this kind of thing in broader culture as well, or at least i think i'm noticing a general shift into analog/older/slower/less trackable ways to connect and communicate. so maybe it's just a question of a site emerging and people spreading the word. :) one can hope.
i'm really surprised you've not heard of gosupermodel! well i suppose it was a nordic thing always ...? im not sure. but definitely check it out, it is very chill. i do miss the days of the old(er) internet when i was like max 14yrs old and i would share stories i wrote in gosupermodel. they were in finnish and since i don't write in english i don't have such a forum anymore.
anyway i feel hopeful, i have been off social media for years now and more human contact would be nice. i used to love omegle as well, as long as you got past the dicks and the assholes (in all meanings of both words). and also indie web is the coolest thing ever but the learning curve has just been too steep for me.

My little, old millennial heart is so happy to read this. This is the internet I grew up with. Static web pages, RSS feeds. Man, those were the days. Just not the hideous yellow and blue themes.
