Just read this idea of having an empty jar and everytime something good happens to write it down on a piece of paper and put it in the jar. And on New Years eve empty the jar and read all the good things. Maybe this could be altered to writing one good thing about every day (even if it's the simpliest thing). Or even commenting one good thing about that day here and keeping each other going. Idk, just an idea.

I think that that's a really lovely idea, and it could make for a fun thread for community participation.

I'll toss something into the ring- I've been listening to music in bed, and stumbled across a new song from a band I adore- 'A Tear in Space' by Glass Animals. It's so catchy, and I love listening to tunes- it's a source of little, everyday joy for me, cranking on a song I know I love already, or finding a new on that scratches my brain just right to be on loop for ages.

Absolutely love when I find a new song that keeps replaying until it is quite literally carved into me. And music in general feels like a magical escape.
One question though - if I wanted to make this into a thread, should I post it in the recovery section or offtopic?

Exploring genres of music is so much fun- I've gotten really into electrofunk and folkpunk.

I'm fairly new to the forums, so unsure- but it does sound like it could swing either way. Perhaps it would be a nice addition in the recovery area, as it's focusing on positives? I think people might find it helpful there.

Maybe you got any recommendations for me to listen to? You can DM me if that would be more comfortable.

I agree with you, it would be a nice addition in the recovery area and it's kinda pushing to find even the smallest positive thing in your day.

Sure- Chromeo is a strong contender for my favourite group of all time- their music is catchy, easy to dance to, cheeky, and upbeat. In a word, their vibe is playful. For artists with a similar sound: Breakbot is a classic suggestion, Poolside is a more 'day time/relaxed' spin on their sound (more disco than funk or electronic), and Holy Ghost! leans heavy into that neo-disco sound, though I think they describe themselves as synthpop.

I love The Front Bottoms- especially their earlier music: authentic garbage band emo kid-esque screaming yourself hoarse with beautiful lyricism and a profound understanding of the sense of alienation, isolation, and anger of turbulent youth- the kind of music you listen to when you need to work big feelings out, and feel like someone out there understands the enormity of your anger. For a similar sound, there's The Mountain Goats (less easy listening to me, but love their instrumentals and story telling), Hippo Campus (more produced, smooth sound, with similar themes in their lyrics of young adult ennui), and Modern Baseball (raw, sometimes bordering on a bit too rough- and a bit more crooning than the others).

I think the idea is similar to this thread about listing three good things that happened to you each day. But a separate thread for listing just one item might be an easier start :-)

We also did this in the clinic once per week. One therapist also suggested to highlight what your own contribution to the nice thing was, in order to make it feel more empowering. Like "I saw a rainbow today." would become "I saw a rainbow today because I did my daily walk despite the rain."

hehe~ that's super nice~ :) I'm glad you find a new song you enjoy! ^_^ It's always crazy and a bit silly when you find a new song you enjoy and basically half the music you listen to for the entire month is just that on loop! rofl

that's true, yeah~ :) I guess 1 good thing would be a start~ I'm just upset by how at this point in my life, the bad almost always outweighs the good and any good I participate in at least is really just potentially a feign when Heaven's time rolls around but hey~ aren't we all in that same boat!? >_<

Guess.

Ok gauntlet thrower I accept and throw down a dump truck.

I can breathe, always liked having air, less panic with that air. Never was too uppity about the quality, am more so as I'm older. All kinds of air, tire air is stale but I imagine that is what breathing for zombies is like, some scented air even though some of it is not pleasant like a super powerful rose smell or when the bottom air is released(crass that, but true). Some of the best air though, well used to be my wife's breath if I sucked it from her before a kiss, always had me going to make her breathless, my daughters breath as they slept 🛌 n my shoulder, and the last is the air from my pipe as I retrohale.

So now my 2nd time soiling thoughts on the recovery board, may want to eject me but when swirling the drain I like to have a grin on the way down. Will wander off now.

That's such a good idea!
I kinda feel like keeping this open and writing here one good thing that happened. Although today my all plans are cancelled due to me being sick, so starting new year not on a good foot lol.

I did this a couple of years ago (a professional gave me the idea).

It was interesting to see how far I'd come a year later. I did do another one, but destroyed the bits of paper a few months after starting it, because I thought if something happened to me people would see my private thoughts, and things written down (fuck that).

The reason I'm scared to keep a diary, even tho I still have one.
