  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

First I want to apologise because I'm not a native English speaker, also I'm sorry if I offend anyone with my words.

As far as I understand the scientific explanation on how the universe started is that there was some form of materia that always existed and it decided to react with each other and kick start the creation of the universe, basically some form of meaningless materia without any form of meaningful consciousness..

For me the abrahamic version makes a bit more sense aka a highly powerful being kick started everything instead of some meaningless materia that was just always there for whatever reason but I might be just hanging on some hopeful Idk.

It's a big reason why I haven't ended my life yet, I just can't accept some meaningless materia that just spawned from nowhere created all this.. instead of a powerful more consciousness being who might not want me to end my life..

Personally, I'm an atheist. I still think you're free to believe whatever you want.
I'd recommend reading about history. Books or documentaries like The Bible Decentered.

Life is extremely mysterious. The very fact that we are basically made of stardust, and, we're wondering why we're here (some of us, at least). And a lot of us don't want to exist. It's like a rock saying "oh hey I exist and I wish I didn't. Incredibly weird. The universe is just matter, some of which is aware of itself. How strange is that. Why is there life. Little things that make copies of themselves and wonder if there are others like them on other planets. What?!? I've been all over the map at different times of my life. Enjoy the journey.

I think people should be free to believe whatever they want. It's not like we have 100% proof of everything yet.

I suppose I don't really struggle with the purely scientific explanation so much though. Just because there are 'miraculous' forces and events that we witness day to day but have reasonable explanations for. Gravity, magnetism and rainbows are pretty weird but the brainy of our species understand the mechanics of how these things work.

We can observe evolution by observing the variation of the same species that ended up living in different locations and adapted to them. So- we know that over vast periods of time, living creatures adapt and change. I don't really see why the birth of consciousness couldn't have come out of that too. It's really only intelligence, memory retention and, self awareness. I don't necessarily think it's magical.

The scale at which all this happened seems amazing but then, if we're talking billions and billions of years. Maybe even infinite time stretching backwards, doesn't it seem more likely that something would happen, react, grow, rather than nothing at all?

Personally, I actually find it more horrifying that a being created all this deliberately. Given that suffering is written into the design. It makes me deeply troubled wondering about the kind of 'mind' that came up with all the gruesome ways sentient creatures can suffer and die. Especially when they have no choice but to cause suffering in order to live eg. parasites. It seems a very strange/ sadistic mind that came up with that- to me: Yes, you can live but, only if you burrow into the skin of this other living being, cause it horrible suffering and, eventually kill it. I sort of doubt the very worst serial killer amongst the human population could come up with something as horrific and perverse as that. That's my concern really in there being a creator of all this.

Believe as you decide to believe. It seems to me that almost any system of belief can be theoretically viable as long as they are given one miracle to begin with.
Like there always was matter/universe/something; then it became alive, sentient, evolving and here we are.
Or, in the beginning God. (Or Vishnu, Allah, whomever you accept). And He/She/They created.
Or, as our old science teacher used to say, "In the beginning there was nothing, then it exploded in the Big Bang and created everything."

Intelligent life may be a necessity in the universe for the universe to discover itself before it dies.

We can't comprehend infinity and eternity - for a particle traveling at light speed the time dimension disappears there's no time passing and time doesn't exist! The question about eternity is obsolete in this case.

The universe itself is not eternal it will slowly die and become dark.

When there is an infinite amount of time available everything is possible.
