Last year in September, my 14 year old family cat died from liver failure and a tumor.
Today, the second family cat, which was only 7 years old, died as well.

I'm fucking heartbroken. His name was Marty. He died alone in a cage, scared and in pain.

My mom woke me up this morning, crying and told me the cat is dying. He was barely moving, lethargic. He'd been hiding and sleeping, barely coming out and when my mom, who thought he was just sleepy, picked him up from under the bed, she realized he wasn't really moving. He'd been to the vet a few months prior, but seemed healthy.

I took him to the vet immediately. My mom is broke, she didn't get any money this month and still she scratched together her last 100€ and gave them to me for the vet.
Vet had no idea what was going on.
He was mute, usually, rarely meowed, but every time I said his name in this loving tone, he looked at me and meowed. He must have been in such bad pain. I'm glad I got to pet him one last time.

My sister and my brother went to see him on the evening. The vet said it would be best to put him down right now, so he wouldn't have to suffer anymore. My sister said Marty was panicked and looked like he was suffocating. My brother refused to have him put down, I don't blame him. He was in denial and convinced the cat would feel better soon.
One hour later, he was gone.

My sweet Marty. He slept next to my mom every night. He didn't really like me, I think. But I loved him.
Just yesterday, I was sending my mom videos and pictures of him as a kitten and we looked at them together. So cruel.

I hope him and my other cat get to reunite in kitty heaven. I'm no believer, but it's the only comfort I have.

The other cat we have, Bambu, who's just barely a year old, has been scared and hiding since. Maybe he feels alone without Marty.

I'm sorry if this post seems messy. I'm just really fucking heartbroken.

Thank you everyone. I drew him, and I'll keep it as my phone background so I still get to see him every day. He was such a handsome young boy

ur drawing is so beautiful! i'm so sorry, i really hope ur okay! ur gonna see him in the little things during the day, like in a ray of sunshine, a flower, a butterfly, even in a random cat on the street asking for pets. i've lost so many pets so i get it. it's hard but u can get through it. not forgetting, cuz i'll never forget my pets, but knowing they're not suffering anymore makes me happy, i even picture them all together playing in heaven.

hope u feel better <3

Rip Marty:heart:
It's always terrible when a pet dies. It's even more terrible when the pet dies in agony and not in a peaceful way. For me the reasons were that we had no money to take the sick pets to the vet.
I've had to be in the last painful moments for two of my pets. I remember for the dog I took her out for a walk but she succumbed to her old age and cancer there and I had to carry her dead body up the stairs. When my cat was dying it was so horrible that I begged for him to die so he wouldn't be suffering anymore.

TL:DR I can understand you pain a lot.

I'm so sorry, I've lost my poor little dog just a few months ago, and it's been heartbreaking, especially since she spent her last days in the veterinary, away from anyone she knew.

It's helped me a bit since then to try and focus on the 6 happy years we've given her, and that it she could, she would be grateful for it, in the end. I'm certainly grateful for all she did to keep me sane.

I'm sure you gave Marty the best 7 years he could have asked for, despite everything, and everything you've said in your post proves it. You'll never not miss him, but you'll be happy you made the best with the time you've had.
