I watched evangelion a couple months ago (great show, can't recommend it enough, deals with alot of topics which people on this forum are familiar with) and the character thats stuck with me the most is Misato. Maybe I just like the art, I don't know, but I also find the character very intriguing. Spoiler warning ig but here are my thoughts. To put it plainly, Misato is a very bad person. She wants to be close to people but she doesn't know how, and the choices she makes in order to feel that closeness are sick. but just because a character is bad doesn't make them unrelatable or un-understandable on a broader level. Before Misato was an adult woman, she was a teenager that lost everyone in a single catastrophic event, which traumatized her to the point of going mute for several years. (side note: I like how Evangelion explores mutism in the way that it does. Rei and Misato are 2 good examples of people that, for one reason or another, cannot communicate with their peers) I was mute from ages 13-18 and I really apprecated both of these characters. its nice to see my own experiences in media, as i think its through other perspectives (even ficticous) that I gain a broader perspective of the world. My point about Misato is that, when you look at what she endured, from her childhood all the way through the second impact, as well as her inability to stick out a relationship and possibly have some more stable connection, her desperate hunger for human connection makes perfect sense. You can empathize with the character while also recognizing their action as an unjustifiable evil, i think. Misato hq final final final Misato 20
