Might run away instead of CTB, opinions?

I've been considering CTB for a while, and although it sounds great I'm think I'm too much of a coward to actually go through with it. So my next option is running away from home. I still live with my parents because I can't afford my own place. It's suffocating, they won't let me do anything. I had friends willing to run away with me, but they both ended up backing out. I also maybe have a place to stay, but I would have to get all the way to Canada and I live pretty far away from there. Do you guys think it's worth it to try running away, or should I just CTB and get it over with?

When you're at the point of thinking of CTB, I think anything is worth to try. CTB should be the last resort.

I have never done it before but hitchhiking might be helpful if you are lucky enough. It does have its risks as you would be getting into a stranger's car, but you being on the verge of ending yourself would make many risks irrelevant.

The idea of getting in someone random's car kinda terrifies me, but you're probably right that's it's better than CTB.

Feasible but takes some groundwork, especially if it's likely that your parents will make an effort to track you down.

You should certainly consider moving out of your parents house before you go as far as to CTB. Obviously nobody knows how things turn out once you are in Canada. But it's certainly possible to hitchhike to Canada from the US. I hitchhiked a lot in the US myself and it was ok in somes states and easy in other states. But I'm female. If you are male you might need to wait a bit longer for lifts. But if you still look really young that might be an advantage, too. There's a wikipedia for hitchhikers called hitchwiki, if you want to do more research on hitchhiking.
Generally hitchhiking is a lot safer than people think, durfing the last 20 years I hithchiked tens of thousands of miles in different parts of the world and 99% of lifts were good experiences. I only felt in danger a few times (mostly due to drunk drivers, in one case due to a driver who wanted to fuck me). In any case a driver can't do more to you than kill you, so if your alternative solution would be CTB you have nothing to lose (and would even save yourself the trouble of finding a method to CTB^^)

That's true, I'll definitely look at hitchwiki and see if I feel safe doing that. Also yea I am female but I look pretty masculine so it might take a bit. Either way, you're right that if anything CTB is a lot of effort lmao. I'll definitely look into running away/moving out as an option^^

I actually thought about running away too. Maybe try out trucking - where you get to go out into the world, travel the country. But I know that's not an option for me anymore. Whatever you decide to do, good luck.

It might sound corny and maybe out of place on this site, but I believe it is always worth it to give yourself a second chance. I have a partner who lives out of the state and withiut them everything seems pointless, and it's always so hard to se each other due to both of our circumstances. But when we do get to be together it's like heaven on earth and everything just melts away. I think that if you can go, you should. It might take a lot of work to get to where you need/want to be (Canada, I believe you said) but if it's a valid option for you then please take it. I very truly hope you find the happiness and stability you deserve.

Alright, as someone who's moving out of their parents in a few months to move in with my discord best friend- Make sure your discord friend is trustworthy. How long have you known them for? How old are they? Etc.

After that if you can't get a Canadian VISA then I'd tell you to look into this:
and see if you can take that route; I must warn you though it's illegal and I don't know if it'd work out for you.

I recommend trying to get a job first for a little bit, even part-time and then save some money to fall back on. Plan a date and time for when you're going, when you're leaving, etc. Pack all of your stuff and make sure to save your money. Try to make as much money in as little time as possible then save it. I recommend after moving in with them get a job then pursue education if you wish, or not. Your choice.

I will say my humble opinion. Never give up on living, no matter what you go through, I know it's hard, I've been through it, that's precisely why I'm here talking to you. Look for a job, save money, and go where you feel best. Try to graduate, or do something you "dream about" and don't give up on them. I left my parents' house and came to live in the capital of my state, alone. But here I have some friends and my fiancée. But I still feel a little lonely. Today, for example, I'm in my bed, I didn't go to a job interview, I practically didn't leave my room, since I literally rent a private room, but with a kitchen and a shared bathroom. I'm unemployed, and I have 1 month to get something here, or I'll have to go back to my hometown. I'm kind of empty-headed, like I'm "fuzzy" or "distracted" since it's almost clear that I have ADHD. But anyway, don't give up. Fight for what you want.

Jus passing through this thread and my opinion is.... maybe try to like get some funds through a job or something or talk to your parents about needing space and try to move out on your own.

Being homeless and even relying on other people for housing can get really scary and like make it hard to enjoy things. (As someone thats struggled with safe housing im jus sayin)

Finding a way to move away safely and with money or support I think is a good idea or even just test trial stay with your friend for awhile kinda thing?

Living on my own has granted me many freedoms and peace that I know I wouldn't have elsewhere but, I do have the support of friends and my family financially speaking so even though I'm technically below the poverty line I dont per say worry about starving or not being able to pay things bc I have a safety net if that makes sense.

I think getting away from one's life in whatever way safely possible is a great idea though.

I don't have much experience with running away but for your safety and sanity please don't hitchhike if you don't have to. A one way bus ticket might cost a bit extra but it'll save you a lot of stress as well and won't leave you stranded anywhere. But if hitchhiking is your last resort just be prepared and maybe pack some pepper spray or something lol.

Passport cards allow you to cross at land borders which would make the process much easier and I think the application is something like 30 dollars and you'll have legal access for a certain amount of time. That way you can avoid being detained and deported right when you get to Canada which would be a bad experience after traveling such a long way to get there.

Many people don't think running away is a good idea. But given your tough situation it is plausible. If it's truly between running away and CTB then running away is the better option as you're giving life another chance.

Think about how you will support yourself, rather than insisting on Canada maybe go to the nearest town with seasonal work (fruit picking, theme park staff etc) just moving out and getting work will be a massive change, but summer is round the corner you could maybe tent it for a few months and save up.

If you end up running away, please be really really careful who you trust. Please have a job and a place lined up first so that you are not desperate for money. I can't tell you the amount of horrific people I've met in my life, and they prey on any one who is vulnerable. You might want to look into something like tree planting, where you get paid but you also are camping out at the location and so you won't be without shelter. You can then save enough money to be able to set yourself up on your own. I think setting yourself up financially in order to avoid more trauma is extremely important.

Running away can actually be a really interesting adventure if you think about it, going out into the huge world with nothing but your clothes and a pack of supplies. It liberating in a way to just travel without having to worry about social and financial obligations. Of course some words of advice; pack plenty of canned goods (distance from destination will determine how manys enough) bring a lighter, like one of those bic lighters, those things are durable. your probably gonna want to bring some kind of weapon, knife,gun,pointy stick, just something to keep the creeps off of you. You dont necessarily need to know how to start a fire but that'd be pretty useful. Since your heading north I would advise to avoid getting wet and seeking shelter from the wind since wind is really the big factor in whether you chill or not. And lastly good luck and happy camping.

If you're going to run away you better make sure you have a damn good plan. You better have a good idea of who to trust, how to be self sustenant, etc, and have a good idea of how sustainable it is.

Firstly, you are not a coward for not ctb. Besydes we have SI that is something nobody can either control or delete from the brain, ctb is also a hard, stressing, scary and somehow painful decision, and there is no success or fail in it. I repeat : you are not a coward. You are someone who is scared of doing it, and this is not only totally fine but a good news in some ways.

Secondly, I am not sure where you live, how old are you or what are your abilities (neither will ask), but I will tell you my experience. One day, around 30 yo, I decided to just live life day by day, and for 5 years I kept travelling, living in different countries and cities (4 countries, 15 cities), looking for a job in the places I ended up in, getting a cheap rent and just exploring the place. It was awsome, and gave me the kind of freedom I was looking for. I was lookimg for jobs as waiter/waitress, in hostels or hotels, in bars.. it can be anything. It takes some courage, but it is really worth doing it. Remember also that your life owns to you so if your parents are not ok with you leaving... well ... it is their own problem. You are not born to please anyone else than yourself. Also, you are not doing anything bad.

Living like this thought me a lot, because I had to rely on myself and make things work for myself.
Also, this can be done in several ways, there is no need to travel as crazily as I did, nor to go far away. The good news is that you can do it at your own terms.
