anyone else on here a huge mj fan?? he was the first music artist ive ever obsessed over, starting when i was very young. i've watched a good handful of the documentaries on him (even the conspiracies, a majority are focused on those) but to get a movie on him was so exciting! his off the wall era is my personal favorite. fyi- i'm not saying he was perfect, it's a very complex topic so pls no strong opinions on the controversies please ^.^ unless it's respectful.

He was also the first singer I listened to on repeat to begin with. An incredibly talented performer. I wasn't/ am not an obsessive fan but I do love his music and dance. Is the movie good? I've seen mixed reviews.

The controversy is so difficult. I suppose I could always see both scenarios being true. That he was such an obvious target for people wanting to extort money from him. And alternatively, that he had enough money to get away with things others maybe wouldn't.

For the children's sake- obviously, I hope he was always innocent but then- that's also kind of horrific in itself. To think how much he was persecuted, if in fact he was innocent. By people he had been friends with too. Either scenario is so shocking.

I've always felt that people who falsely accuse others should do the jail time for whatever offense they were prosecuting them for. Because- it can obviously destroy that person's life- to be falsely accused of rape etc. Of course, proving things must be so difficult though.

Are you able to fully divorce the controversy from the music? I imagine you are certain he was innocent- which must make it easier. A colleague at work wouldn't even contemplate the possibility he could be guilty. I suppose it's more that I just don't know. I enjoyed his music before any of the allegations came out so- I suppose that makes it easier too- to still enjoy the music.

What is your favourite song? Growing up, mine was Smooth Criminal. But, for a long while, it's been Billie Jean. The beat to that is incredible. The music video was so cool too. The way the pavement lit up when he walked over it. I always wanted a staircase like that.

I remember in a documentary, it was suggested some of the more quirky controvercies were started by the singer himself. I don't know if that's true. On the one hand, it's kind of masterful to draw attention to an eccentric star. On the other though, it must have fed into this idea of him as weird/ 'wacko'- which he obviously didn't enjoy.

first off, i really love this detailed response. there's truly so much to talk about regarding michael.
the movie was good in my opinion, it stops right when bad is performed. what most are unhappy with is how much was left out. they filmed a LOT more than what we see, but couldn't include it in the final cut due to legal reasons. there is going to be a second michael movie that apparently will cover up until his death, but i'm not sure what era they'll start it in. my guess is bad, since the only thing we saw of it was him on stage. the thing is- if they had to censor as much as they did up until his late twenties, i cannot imagine what the second half will look like…

my stance on the main controversy is that no matter if his intentions were truly what he said they were, it's still inappropriate to have such close relations with kids. even though it's michael, it was still weird and i think he knew he could get whatever he wanted.

i find myself having to separate the art from the artist often, and the logic i go by is unless the material itself is the problem, its able to be enjoyed. i dont know the situation well enough to pick a side of guilt or innocence. since theres a possibility of victims, it feels wrong. at the end of the day i didnt know the guy personally no matter how much media ive consumed, so i definitely have opinions on michael fans that swear his innocence.

smooth criminal and billie jean are fantastic it's so hard to pick a favorite! my favorite album is off the wall, i love how jazzy it is. but thriller is definitely a close second. don't stop til you get enough would have to be my favorite. he made sure there was a dance to go with everything.

i've heard that theory too. it's definitely something, but in my opinion i'd be very surprised if true. he loved getting attention through unity from his music, but he hid so much pain. an example is wearing sunglasses so people couldn't see his troubled soul. the documentaries are so negative, i'm really happy with the movie we got!

I've had his song don't stop 'til you get enough in my head since I saw this post of yours last night and it is still in my head now so I had to comment. I separate him as an artist from his personal life. He had so many gems and those music videos too.
