modern society loves to take abusive fathers at face value without offering any grace or excuses, yet when it's time to talk about abusive mothers, all of a sudden, the hand-holding and hypotheticals start in defense of said demon spawn mother, and the child/teen/or adult is looked at as the attention-seeking victim.

and people wonder why these folks (even worse, CHILDREN) are fucking offing themselves.

I've physically been away from her for almost a year since the last time we spoke, but those memories………..they never fucking left.

having exceptional memory? great
having a exceptional memory filled with mostly traumatic occurrences? hell on earth.

but yea I was speaking in a general sense, because I know I'm not the only one on here that can relate to having a "Mommie Dearest" mother.

At least on here there are people who understand, maybe even relate. To look for sensibility in large scale society is depressing, you're only rarely going to find it. That's why I'm happy that little communities like on here exist.

yea I've never received the dismissive rhetoric excusing my mothers actions from people on here that I've received from people in real life (some who share the same blood as me unfortunately)….and they act confused as to why I isolate myself from them now.

its a damn shame, but like you said society is fucking depressing.

Abuse in a family context is always such a mess. People who weren't abused or don't want to admit it are gonna see you talking about it as an attack on a loved one or close family member. People that are bound together so closely fighting like that, it's a lot of tension, of pressure. If those supposedly inseperable ties do snap it's often explosive.

it's even worse when a family member of mines who literally tried to kill herself in her teens but failed because her parents were trash, downplay the abuse I faced behind closed doors because in her eyes "it wasn't as bad as what I went through". Like wtf.😐

(Yea I'm over sharing, but those assholes aren't ever gonna see this so idc it's the truth)

Sadly to some people suffering is a competition. Hope that she'll come around some day.

I grew up with an abusive father but thankfully in his old age he changed for the better and I can get along with him now. It's still difficult though, being stuck with the memories, but I've forgiven him for a lot. As for my mom though, she died back in 2017 from cancer, so I haven't had her in my life for a while, but with her it was a mixed bag. Some days she could be sweet as sugar, but on the days when she had to work and came home from work, she could be a real bitch.

She worked at a nursing home for a very long time, and saw a lot of shit, but the stress of being there, she took it out on me and my sister sometimes, and I still remember one morning before school when my mom beat my sister up because she didn't want to get out of bed in the morning. It was a very crazy time and something I will never forget. Looking back on it now, I realize my mom was just under a lot of stress and didn't deal with it the right way and that is why that happened.

As for you, I'm glad you got away from your abusive mother physically, but like you said, the memories never leave. You're always just stuck with them. I know the feeling and it really sucks.

takes strength to forgive your abusers and not let time heal wounds like we're trained to think.

yeah, parents tend to take their stress out on things and people that they know won't have to face repercussions or questioning of their supposed authority. 🙄
that tends to happen when parents view their children as property and not people.
