If you never tied a knot in your life... Maybe its better to consider some other methods. You dont wanna screw this up

I have been practising slip knots but I'm confused by how to do it on the actual rail- on something. Does anyone have a video showing it being used ON something ?

I tie a slipknot, hang it over the rail and put the other and of rope throught the loop, then tighten it. Its simpler than making a bowline knot

It looks like the knot in this video except way simpler. I mean its showing the position. Rope wound over the obstacle. The same would be true for a railing except it would be winding around vertically instead of sideways if you know what I mean
