Knives types and methods

Hi,

What are the methods that one can use with a knife?
I assume there is just stabbing and cutting.
How effective are each of these ways?

In regards to stabbing is it possible to stab a organ oneself that leads to death fairly quickly.

What type of knives would be best for each type? Any links would be appreciated.

I've heard it's not very effective. If I remember right, these methods are not recommended on this site due to such high failure rates.
