Hey, so today I discovered that there's a bridge with a lake below it and it's freezing here. Would jumping into freezing water put my body in some sort of shock and make me drown or would I have to tie something heavy to myself so that it pulls me to the bottom?
I would absolutely take something heavy. Even if the water puts you in a temporary shock, there's no guarantee that it will last long enough to actually drown you. There's also a chance that if it's not cold enough to stun you, it will make your SI kick in.
if that is really how you want to CTB, take something heavy, because going out that way is very unpleasant and your body will fight every inch of your mind to get out of that water
