• Hey Guest,

We wanted to share a quick update with the community.

Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

Starting a supermarket job in a few days. They just sent me an email demanding I download 4 (FOUR), yes FOUR apps onto my phone. And then they gave me instructions to log onto one of these apps and complete the "tasks"... there are 10 of these tasks... I haven't even started my induction day yet!

Is this what they mean by humiliation ritual? I've worked at a supermarket before and there was next to no training involved, I walked in on day 1 and they put me on the till, had me oversee another worker for 20 minutes to learn how to operate it and then that was me set for the rest of the time I worked there.

I don't see how any of this is justified, it should be a human rights violation, at least a human dignity violation. This has to be someone's fetish right? Someone with way too much power.

I don't see anything wrong with what they've asked as long as they are paying for the time it takes you to do what it is they want you to do on these apps before your first day. They shouldn't be asking you to do anything off-the-clock.

The thing I'm most caught up about is what reason could they have to demand their employees download and keep 4 whole entire apps on their phone to do a supermarket job? Just seems artificial and performative, like the company wants to feel more important than it actually is. You're a damn food retailer, a bread merchant, why wouldn't you embrace the simplicity? They could make it cozy but they choose to go for neurotic taskmaster vibes.

Depends on what the apps are for and what they do. I mean, it might be overkill... or there might be value in there. I had a job that had a payroll app that gave us access to all kinds of info about our current and previous pay periods. Then there was an app that was for our company benefits. A completely separate one for our health insurance provider. Those were nice to have.
