This is a good show for recovery as it demonstrates people at their lowest, the people around them who want to bring them up and the reasons for why they are at their lowest.

There were quite a few times where I found myself having similar thoughts and experiences to those on the show. Some of their words were mine verbatim.

There were quite a few times where watching it was like sticking a knife into my chest as certain aspects resonated with me.

It was/is shown on A and E (AE?) In the US though you can find clips and, maybe, full episodes on YouTube.

I only watch the first half. For some reason, I have no problem watching them feed their addictions.

I have a hard time with the actual interventions, though. I come from a dysfunctional family with many addictive personalities and I find the outpouring of emotion to be too much for me. FTR, I am not one of the addictive personalities but I have been bullied by the ones in my family.

I like hearing the resolution at the end, too.

The show is also on VICE as well.

Same. Many of the interventions don't hit me and some people cause me to go cold. Then, there are some which hit me hard.

Watching the people try to convince themselves that how they are living is fine and that this is what they want does have its moments.

Holy shit, that show is so wild.

Really, it amounts to trauma porn.

The earliest seasons are so out of control, with the very explicit depictions of substance use. Many of the episodes basically amounted to literal step-by-step instructional videos on the various methods of administration. I remember being so fucking shocked watching.

Imagine if there was a similar show for CTB. People would lose their minds.

I don't like the rebooted production style they use now, it's too flashy and over-done, but I suppose that's the way they appeal to modern audiences.

I managed to find the older episodes and they are raw in many ways. You really get a sense of it all but, damn, if there are times I can relate.

Yeah, definitely.

There is one episode with a woman named Cristy (it's season 2, episode 8) that is truly astounding, if you can find it. I just did a quick search and could only find the intervention portion of the episode on YouTube, but it is the first half that is so... like wow.

She was abusing meth and vodka specifically, which at one time in my life was also my exact choice of substances, so although I did not experience the dramatic life she became enmeshed in, I related very strongly to what drove her behavior.

Amazing how close it can come to that. I was a millimeter from H myself. Then, alcohol. Makes me realize how lucky I was.
