What is causing you to be suicidal?

  • Just inflation alone is causing suicidal thoughts

  • Mostly inflation, but a little bit caused by other mental health issues

  • Mostly other mental health issues, but a little bit caused by inflation

  • Inflation + Other mental health issues. Both equal.

  • Inflation is not a factor in suicidal thoughts

Is anyone wanting to suicide due to inflation?

Holy crap every time I go to the grocery store, and it just makes me want to die.
Prices keep going up by 50 cents every 6 months.

These are on things like wieners. The cheapest meat you can literally get.

What other options do I have? Holy crap.

Then there is rent where you basically have to pay $900 bucks to rent a shitty room with 6 other people in the same home where the electricity shuts down everyday.

The more I think, its less about my mental health. It is about more lack of money to change the situation. Whatever money I earned won't even be useful in a few years when groceries prices and rent goes up x5.

Its exhausting. As a human being I just want to eat and have shelter. It seems like you need to work 3 jobs to just get the basic needs now-a-days.

I love capitalism (sarcasm).

As much as I'm also sick and tired of paying sky-high prices at the grocery store, it still doesn't factor into my suicidality. I just went to the store yesterday. Not that I was going to buy anyway, but I went back to the meat area to check prices. This store I visited yesterday (one of two) was one I had found that had the best prices on beef stew meat at $3.99 per pound, but that was around 7 or 8 months ago. Yesterday, it was $5.49 per pound. Screw that. I'm not paying that much for stew meat. I've been eating nothing but chicken for, really, the past 4 or 5 years, except for a couple occasions where I made beef stew, and will continue doing just that. I can make chicken stew just as easily as beef stew. And I eat a lot of store brand chicken tenders, too. Those are my go-to, with a potato, carrots, and green beans. Can't really eat cheaper than than. A bag of potatoes lasts nearly a month. So does a few bags of carrots. A bag of chicken tenders lasts about 2 weeks. I can usually get 2 servings out of a can of green beans. Cereal costs are still a killer, though. Don't get me started.

Yeh but see thats the problem. I am not even talking about beef and pork. Chicken is the cheapest meat of all. But even that is starting to go up in price.

I wonder if we will eventually come to a point where the poorer people just wont be able to afford meat at all. Its starting to look like this.

Im in canada.... Where we are like five million or so short of housing and took in 8 million immigrants in two/three years to a 35 mil pop (previously)

The shortage has made even a bachelor suite a grand prize if you can get it when its the only opening around and hundreds apply on first day and it's like 2000-2400 dollars
Bedroom in indian persons house now can be around 1200...
Avg rent in many cities now for ine person accommodation is 2400!plus utilities and tax and carbonntax on the tax. Tax on tax. This is only for basements, bedrooms ajd are art mens. Don't ever think about living in a house again! One story last i checked was 3400. Upper story of small two story house.

Groceries... Simple things like chicken stock, 7 plus tax. Tofu, 4-5. Meat never under 8 dollars now for the small lil packs. Whole chicken, 15. Its ridiculous. Soy milk, 5 dollars. I am celiac i gotta buy fresh food and make myself. One soup ingredients at store was 35-40 dollars and that was yeaaaaars ago when things were like 1/3 cheaper

1/4th of the country relies on food banks. A lot of people though are using the foodbank while they are easily surviving /not in need. Robbers! People are asvertisinfg the food bank as "made for us immigrants specially and if you come to Canada you get free food. I am able to save a big chunk of money from my job as a bank manager thisnway" (real vudeo from an immigrant). All the comments were indian people saying its so cool that they made this service for them especially. The reason the food bank exists is to help them save money... Its weird man

And then jobs... There are no min wage jobs anymore!! One dollarama got 2k applications in one week when they had a position 😢😢😢 i work min wage have an anxiety disorder.. All my coworkers had to move to alberta to get a job at a pizza place. :/ its bad
I hate canada. Any usa folk want a wife? Lmfao

Ain't NO way I'm not gonna be a homeless agoraphobe eventually. This is my MAIN reason to ctb. I can't ever afford to live here and have a severe anxiety disorder barring me from a lot. But the wait list for a psychiatrist to get disability has been four years since i panic attacked myself out of a job lol. Uuuggghhhh

I am at a lost for words.

People with minimum wage jobs will be most affected by inflation. But eventually it will catch up to others also. Right now even if you are working in middle class, you can still be affected.

I'm sorry that this is happening. I'm going to make an assumption based on your profile and name that you're a trans person in America - this is a very scary and messed up time in our country for members of the lgbtq community and though I can't do much to help immediately, I just want to say that there are a lot of Americans standing on your side and continuing to fight the good fight for your rights, despite the political disaster ahead of us. ❤️

In Canada, Loblaws owns 1/3 of all grocery stores which is insane, oligopolies. Consolidation like this has been happening everywhere, in America as well. When there are fewer choices, there's less competition, price fixing and price gouging. This is capitalism for you. The rich get richer, they squeeze the masses. Deregulation benefits the 1%, corps, the wealthy, not the people, not consumers.

'Greedy Gouging': Canadians react after Loblaw reports over $500M profit in second quarter
Loblaw Companies Limited is reporting a profit of $508 million for its second quarter that ended on June 17. This marks an increase of $121 million or 31.3 per cent compared to last year. (2022)

However, many people are unimpressed with the grocery chain profiting so heavily, while many Canadians struggle to put food on the table.

"Greedy Gouging. Did you know that 1 in 4 food bank clients are children in Ontario? And a record number of Seniors," she tweeted on Wednesday. "People have every right to feel frustrated. Especially if they have been paying attention."
They're have been record corporate profits amidst record homelessness and millions upon millions living paycheck to paycheck!in America.

Plenty of greed under the guise of inflation.

Youre on the ball. I know about this too
I remember when they hiked their prices during the pandemic or slightly after, there were news articles defaming a protest against Loblaws (protest was to not buy there) citing violent incentives from one poster on a sign post.
Problem is that the same one photo was used for all news articles that we're trying to scare people from this protest, and the picture came down to one legacy journalist in Ontario and was never seen again. So if you see whatyim saying...
Its much like the trucker protest during covid vsccines. They legit hired one person to raise a nazi flag, legacy media took pictures, then they left and called all Canadian truckers nazis lmfao
That was their only proof and nobody witnessed the flag dude irl
Somehow the youth believed it! And trudeaus giv used this tactic again and again. Paint as black and white then virtue signal while doing bad things behind the curtain. Also they're now using trump. For this.
Sigh

ב''ה,
Price inflation (currency devaluation) is a vaguely stupid thing but the cure is worse than the disease.

The easiest way to keep inflation low is to limit the supply of money to workers (wages) so prices are kind of limited by the "if they go up too high people die" thing. Now nobody cares about that part much anyway.

I am one of those UBI people for various reasons, but while that's only a pittance, it's as good a way to limit inflation, because now you have the baseline a non-working person receives for food and maybe staying home not breaking windows, and actual working wages could be better. Plus, everyone receives a pittance, so instead of 'this is awful,' maybe in 6 months of stuffing a penny jar you can afford something other than peanut butter as also isn't cheap anymore.

So there will be some classism in prices but a whole lot less people starving or not buying soap.

That's what a properly functioning govt, antitrust laws and regulations are for. After all, it wasn't always this way. Where are the antitrust laws? Why aren't we asking these oligopolies to be broken up. Instead people are distracted and complain about being taxed, fucking peanuts, when the real issue had been getting paid living wages all along. No one actually earns a billion dollars, let alone the absurd levels of wealth we've reached today. Much of that is from labor exploitation, as in not paying living wages, not providing health care. Privatize profits, socialize the losses. You don't pay living wages or provide health care, guess where they people on the short end of this stick have to go, the state. Then we complain about taxes, wash, rinse and repeat. Not to mention the wealthy, corps, bankers/finance should be paying much higher taxes. It's not like that wealth is trickling down to everyone else, bullshit trickle down economics that started with reagan/thatcher and kickstarted all of this shit we're now swimming in.

i loathe conservatives because it's always the same thing, deregulate, tax cuts for rich/corps, cut social services and privatize everything.

in the US dems have been losing because they have stopped fighting for working people, except for the likes of Bernie Sanders and the progressive party. i do not love them at all. but at least, under dems you had an FTC chair, Lina Khan, that took on google, said it should be broken up. Same FTC sued Amazon in 2023 re:monopolistic behavior. And sued to stop a $24billion Albertsons-Kroger supermarket merger. I mean there's already too much consolidation in America across industries. But she fought to protect consumers and food prices and for the sake of competition, supposedly capitalism had something about competition once long ago.

Do we think Trump and Repugs are going to appoint the likes of Lina Khan? Fuck no, Dumpf and co have already started on the deregulation train. This is a billionaires paradise. This will hurt consumers. FFS the financial crisis that devastated the globe was the result of deregulation and purposeful lack of oversight. Greenspan was revered, dipshit libertarian believed hands off was the best way, things will regulate themselves. Turned out to be the emperor with no clothes.

ב''ה,
Well, there's that or there's living like the gentleman from Waterbury, CT in the news with whoever wants to play the role of the mother in that scenario.

Unfortunately those equivalents (get on a waiting list for a boarding house with shared toilets, maybe at best) are where that social program money collected in taxes has been going, so things are complicated. It's annoying that money is such a large percentage of autonomy but in fairness in the common case it just is, how is an ordinary person even riding to work or eating enough to work without it? Not to idolize work but since people do only care about work, it's ridiculous that working doesn't even support that very often.

Absolutely my friend! I feel less alone already. You're awake unlike many. Things have become a fricken horror fantasy weird azz science fiction mix. Where even is reality anymore? Most people don't know! lol. They have guards up against seeing reality, which is calculated, expected and acted upon for the reason of controlling their vote. Shits scary
USA is just as bad
My dad escaped to the USA. Spent his whole life to go there.
Luckily a house down there isn't over 1.5mil even if it's a dang shed that's broken down, and that's one plus. But recently, without going political because i'm very centerist, things are looking similar to our dictatorship..... sorry! That is political. But my feelings, as such (being in a dictatorship the last 8 years, rent going from 750 avg to 2400 in those 8 years X_X) I see the similarity.....

Oh we have, like, three censorship bills put on the internet in the last two years too. Google says, "Some results will not be shown due to local laws" (gov and rich people can remove results if they want, including the prime minister or any MP, any cabinet anything) . This is the main similar trajectory I can predict, which is no no good
