I decided on inert gas as my CTB method and have put together all the components and have thoroughly familiarised myself with the method. I've noted forum user accounts of unsuccessful attempts because of SI, insufficient gas, knocking over the cylinder, intervention of third parties etc. My decision to use inert gas was based on what I read in the PPH, specifically that it's reliable. I want to CTB but don't want to fail the attempt. If I control all the variables, how reliable is this method?

Its very reliable if done right.
paying attention to detail with any type of attempt is the key.🤗🌹💔

After going thru mega thread and few others, found clear and empirical help if scba is not too much time/ cost

p1 and p9 for setup and testing

The PPH ranks its reliability as 8 out of 10, just like SN:
The N method gets a 10, Morphine 5, cardiac drugs 6-9, CO 9.
I have no idea why the IG is considered less reliable then CO by PPH, but I'm taking my chances and going with Nitrogen.
Ive got every thing I need, tank, regulator, exit bag, tube, a location, except guts to beat SI but I must do it in the near future.

My hypothesis is the bag piece and potential discomfort and up to a min consciousness for SI and potential removing the bag - but perhaps a 9 or 10 with scba or eebd?

I agree the weakest link is the exit bag and probably spasms that might knock the system and disrupt the supply of Nitrogen. Defiantly higher with scba.

Exit international have said masks are unreliable due to the difficulty in maintaining an effective seal on the wearer's face once unconsciousness is achieved. They have stated they believe this is because the facial muscle tone changes once unconscious. It's the reason they didn't support the mask procedure for executions in the US. In the Dignitas trial of masks, one of the four participants was suspected of having a mask leak. EEBD probably is highly effective.

"The right to die movement abandoned the use of facemasks over 15 years ago because they are dangerous and ineffective." - Philip Nitschke (2023)

Masks like cpap or rebreather yep because of seals - but I'd recommend reading the threads and resources about SCBA and how Positive Pressure works (vs SCUBA) with users here following specific instructions like any other method. The GasMonkey thread and earlier pages in here convinced me with my own research vs bag but it's considerably more expensive and time consuming to get right.

I've read those threads. The mask types Nitschke was talking about include SCBA. He wasn't referring to CPAP or similar. This is the reason why you won't find "closed" mask systems in the PPH; we know they can and do work, because they have been used successfully but Exit don't advocate for them because of the risks involved

Maybe eebd instead then but guess need to keep researching cases because it looked far more effective with rapid onset and PP seal with properly tested and fitted equip (eg right size mask, shave face, shave/ scuba hood hair, etc best practices for fitting in actual use).

Choosing the right size of mask, removing facial hair etc are absolutely necessary steps with masks. The motivation for the thread was that it's very difficult to objectively assess what is effective and what might be less so - there's a lot of opinions on this but not so much evidence-based info. I also was thinking that masks were the way to go but Exit have commented on these extensively -Exit podcast (March 2024 episode, freely available online), Exit workshops etc, say they're "problematic" because of the need for a 100% effective seal.

Do you have an ep you'd recommend on eebd option?

You could probably use some benzos and alcohol to come down the SI and ideally some Ketamine.

I cant drink alcohol because it will cause me pain due to medical condition, and don't have access to Ketamin. I'll use lots of benzos, probably 2 times more than usually though my body can hardly absorb meds.

Oops, episode
There isn't an episode specifically about EEBD, they're more general than technically focused. But take a look, I listened to a few and they were quite interesting.
