Hi SaSu! It's been a long time since I've posted here. (:

I got on Prozac about a month ago and I'm happy to report I'm doing better. 2 months ago, I went to the hardware store to buy rope to hang myself. Today I went to the hardware store to buy flowers. I'm improving even if it doesn't feel like it. I'm not where I want to be yet... quite far from it. I still drink, but now my medication only allows me to have 3 drinks maximum or else I get very ill. Which is an improvement from me drinking a 6 pack a day. I will eventually get to 0 drinks! I have more motivation do to things. Life doesn't feel so suffocating. I don't think about killing myself everyday. Maybe once a week lol. But still, that's much better.

I'm in therapy and since I've been medicated, it's actually working.

I'm still depressed and I always will be, but it'll become easier to manage for sure. I need to increase my meds soon since I'm on the lowest dose. I hope to get a job soon and go back to university this fall. I already applied for my classes. I hope I can stick with it and not drop out. That's the REAL test.

Anyways. Thanks for anyone who read this. And if you're thinking about trying medication, talk to your doctor about it. I was unmedicated for so long and it was my lowest point in life. Don't be afraid to reach out if you'd like to try!

I've seen you around although we haven't interacted much.
I'm really really happy for you.
People reading: before you CTB, TRY MEDS. You can always do it later.

(it's the recovery section, I'm allowed to be positive right? haha)

Thank you so much! <3 I also agree with you! I think people should try before CTB. Even though I know therapy and meds aren't as accessible to everyone. Yes def be positive here! I love to see it lol

They are NOT and I shouldn't have taken it for granted in my reply.
If you have the possibility to do it, BY ALL MEANS DO IT before CTB. Again, you can always do it later, why wouldn't you wanna throw some weird drugs in the mix? Hehe. You won't get another life, might as well do some weird shit before saying goodbye

I'm open to trying meds but I'm quite freshly 18 want to go out drinking and going on pubcrawls. I know alcohol effects are different depending on the type of med, but do you have any advice regarding that? I'm also scared about how meds would make me feel and going through the period of testing different ones to see how they feel.

Hi! So as you know, everybody will have different experiences since medications don't affect everybody the same. It really depends on what kind of med you're put on which is why I recommend you talk to your doctor. (:

I'm on 20mg of Prozac and it's the lowest dose. I can have 2 drinks back to back before I start feeling sick. (For reference I drink cider that's 8.2% ABV per bottle) Then I can have another drink at night since enough time passed. But I also want to mention I have a very unhealthy relationship with alcohol. I've been drinking every single day for the past 3 years so it's not good lol. I don't know your tolerance, so just take it slow to prevent illness or blacking out. Be safe and have fun!

Now about meds. I understand the fear of meds making you feel different or going through that process of testing them. It can be really discouraging at first, especially if the first few meds don't work. But I would really advise people to not give up. I've been on Zoloft, Lexapro, Vraylar, Wellbutrin, Ritalin, Adderall, Concerta, Vyvance, and Prozac. It can feel shitty going through trial and error but once you finally find that right med, it's life changing. You'll most likely feel side effects but they'll go away within a month or two.

Sorry this is so long holy fuck LMAO. But in conclusion! Anything is better than being suicidal. I can't drink as much as I used to and I do miss it, but I'll take less drinking over me wanting to die every single day and engaging in destructive behavior.

Your mental health will forever be more important than alcohol. BUT if you have a healthy relationship with alcohol, you'll be just fine. Just tread very carefully if you struggle with addiction.

Thank you for a response - it was definitely not too long. I forgot to mention in the previous message but congrats on getting better!!

I'll think over getting started on meds then since I've tried talk therapy and just forcing myself through all my depressive episodes. My therapist has asked me about anxiety meds in the past but I was too scared to mention it to the gp. I will definitely ask about alc, if I do go on meds then, and I'm lucky I have a healthy relationship with alcohol since I was too scared to underage drink and now its mostly for socialising.

Thanks again. c:

awh. this reminds me of my ownself. since i tried to do this i went to therapy. while my therapy was HORRIBLE.
it was a psyciatrist that charged me a lot of money just to put me under meds.
but im happy to say that the meds worked flawlessly and i can say im far far less depressed. while sometimes i feel like i am. it just is a hiccup and i never have gone back to the extreme depresion phase i once was. that i considered CTB

i really hope you'll also be the same. growing getting better. catching up with life from being so depressed in life.
i know you can and i know everyone here who wishes to do the same can too! good luck <3
