If your trying to live past christmas, whats a gift ur looking forwards too?

I think that something that keeps me from ctbing is looking forwards to christmas. For me I really want a stain glass umbrella but they are so expensive so I'm planning on asking my mom for one when I go home for christmas. :)

i cant think of anything that id be looking forward to. im not a material person. the gifts are just bonuses, and...idk if its just the neurodivergence and its normal (for us) or if its my specific personality but even the things im honestly excited for and "omg you got me this!!! i love you so much!!!" feels fake and pushed.

i like the people....the family feeling.... it makes my chest/heart feel warm and full and happy......

im grateful that my grampy is going to be there.

but thats going to be the only family i have.... i want a mom and a dad.... i want the house to be full.... a light lull of music and chattering..... the smell of turkey and cookies flooding the house......

i want to be grateful and look forward to spending it with my grandfather, but that empty feeling feels so heavy....

My family is chirping in money to buy me a 3 ft stuffed animal. I bought a smaller version for myself a few months ago I cuddle on the daily and promised me they'll buy a 3 ft version for cleaning up the whole house.

Weird thing to not make it a suprise, I kinda want to buy it on my own but they said they'll get it for me. I really can't wait for it so I can snuggle on it.

And the Christmas parties. Not a gift, but we hold a tradition called "Reverse Lottery" (also called Reverse Raffle) where we put in $5 and write our names in a jar and whoever we pick the name of, loses. We then give the loser the jar to pick the next name. Last name standing gets all the money. We're a large family, it's always got us bonding and laughing all the way through.

Hmm for me a hand-written letter from my family or friend. I keep all of the letters gifted to me, read them from time to time. Kind, authentic words has helped me through so much tough times in the past years.

It's still preliminary, but there is some evidence of reduced activation of reward circuits in response to monetary incentives in people with autism. There is conflicting evidence as to whether this is also true for social rewards, but these rewards seem to be accompanied by increased activation in the amygdala, which may indicate more (social) anxiety.

A gift is often kinda receiving a monetary reward in a highly social context, so I don't think it's weird if you don't really like it. Personally, I hate receiving gifts because I just can't act (naturally) in a way that's expected.

I really want to increase the disk space on my PC, may just ask my father for it. My mother got me a Sephora gift card last Christmas, completely unprompted, it would be nice to get another one
For less materialistic stuff, I'm hoping for my grandma to make it through another year
