If you had to choose a pet besides a dog or cat, what would you choose?

I'll start.
I would love to have a bird. They are adorable and I would love to teach it to speak. Probably a ringneck parakeet in blue.

I always wished I had a horse. We had oxen at one time and our neighbour had horses... They were neglected and thin. When I'd have my cousins over, we'd feed them lots and we even named them.

Snakes are beautiful pets. I've had two before.

alternatively i've considered getting a tarantula but i feel like i'd end up dropping it on accident

I had Chinchillas. Very entertaining little critters. The three of them would often run circles around me while I sat on the couch. Very hyper like bunnies, but also can be skittish. Loud noises like thunder can kill them. They have a special sand that they bathe in to soften their fur, and they go nuts rolling around in it. I miss those girls. I had them since babies so they were hand tamed.

Also had two ball pythons, both over 5 feet. Honestly the calmest pets I've ever had. They'd rest around my neck and go to sleep. Sometimes I'd go for a walk with them, or just have them resting while I used my PC or watch TV. If they were active, they usually just slivered up my arms. I eventually gave them up as they grew beyond what I could feed them. I would buy rats from pet stores, but they were up to bunny sized meals. It was harder to find frozen dead rabbits as opposed to rats. I wasn't really interested in raising their food and preferred to get frozen stock. The zoo took them in and moved them to another reptile exhibit. I do wonder how big they had gotten.

Aside from that I had a few basilisks, nicknamed the Jesus Christ lizards because they can run across water. Absolutely hilarious to see them go. Only downside was that I fed them crickets. Crickets can breed quickly, and if any get loose, you'll be hearing them indefinitely as they are small and hard to find sometimes and get into everything.

A hedgehog! I briefly got to have a pet hedgehog. It's illegal here but we found one that needed vet care and the vets asked if we could look after it for a winter, which we did. Dream come true.

If I could have any animal I would probably have a red panda but they are not domesticated and do not make good pets.

I'd love to have a snake, I'm trying to get rid of my arachnophobia so I'd like to get a tarantula too. I'd also like to adopt old hamsters that need homes, because when I worked in pets at home when I was younger, we had an adoption centre and no one ever wanted the lil old hamsters.

Good luck on getting over arachnophobia! It's actually a nice wee life improvement now that I can sleep with a big fuck off spider crawling underneath my couch and I don't bother at all. Even have a pet tarantula myself now :)
