I still feel homicidal toward someone who assaulted me. Luckily he lives across the country. He deserves death, in my fiery opinion, but the aftermath of murder would be too much emotionally for me, not to mention getting locked up in the state hospital or prison for life.

I believe your 'deserves death' opinion is correct. Anyone who assaults you (for no valid reason) should be rendered inoperable. Actual murder is not necessary. Simply making their limbs inoperable and unrepairable would normally reduce the possibility of future attacks to near zero. That is the justified consequence of an unprovoked assault, in my opinion.
