If a knife to the neck is considered a non-method, then why are there news stories of people committing suicide this way? Or was this type of suicide considered permissible (and less painful) for women from samurai families, as well as samurai who did not have a partner for seppuku? For me personally, from an aesthetic point of view, this would be the most ideal method.

Cutting requires lots of self discipline and determination. Hell, I cannot even stand needles, so I could never cut myself.

When I'm drunk and alone, I sometimes want to hum a song of militaristic Japan and stab myself in the side of my neck

I think someday I might do something like that. All I would need is to get started. Once I made the first cut, I'd have to finish the job. I'm not going to live under the nightmare of being known to have made an attempt. Bills, people being concerned, scars, etc, NOPE. I don't care how much it hurts, and I expect it to require some force to do enough damage, and that I might not have much time before I pass out. So it could go like this: One half-hearted slice at the neck, followed by an savage self-attack. Not ideal, however, in my opinion.

This thread about someone's own experience and the discipline required gets passed around a bunch. Altho, I haven't read it as I never considered this method, it's probably a good read~
I forget which thread it is now (if you have access to the search function, maybe you can search it up), but there was one about seppuku, and apparently, it was common that once the samurai stuck his sword in his body, his retainers would behead him to get rid of the pain~ also, samurai didn't choose particularly great methods either~ >_< At the conclusion of the Battle of Dan-no-ura, many of them chose to drown themselves, and that sounds extremely terrifying D: Enough to where even tho I wish to no longer be here, I stay right next to the life vests whenever I'm on a boat (not very often)! xD

Aww ES,if you're drowning ,I'll appear beside you with a life vest if you don't have one 😂

You don't have to choose to take it. But I'll still be there. Just in case.😊

Or when the Tokuso Hojo burned to flames at Tosho-ji after the fall of Kamakura in May 1333 but...yeah absolutely not to this method, under any circumstances.

Elliott Smith ctbed with two stabs to the chest also I watched a gore video of someone stabbing himself repeatedly to the chest , I think it's possible but I don't think one stab to the neck is enough .

You need to stab both of your carotid arteries. It needs psychotic state of mind and a very sharp knife.

I read that ctb via straight razor was quite common in the 19th century.

My friends husband tried to commit suicide in January using this. He had surgery but survived. I don't see people die from this method often. There was that one kid who killed his teacher and then cut his neck with a circular saw. Definitely worked, but messy.
