I think there is only one specific scenario where suicide by cop is actually a viable method, but it’s not a scenario most people would end up in

I think it's only a somewhat viable method if you're a criminal that's done something really big that would get you a decade or likely longer in prison. And especially if the crime you committed would put you at the lowest rung of the hierarchy when you got into prison.

If you were cornered by the police with no escape. I think charging them with a knife or aiming a gun would be the better option in that scenario opposed to surrendering.

A decade in prison is already a very significant portion of your life taken from you and is more than enough time to scar you forever, there's also the risks of rape and violent assaults. It's also not easiest to kill yourself in jails and prisons from what I hear.

You'd have to hope the cop's aim is really good. It's possible, but heat of the moment could cause them to miss and hit you somewhere that would injure you but not kill you. Or more aptly, prevent you from dying via medical intervention. Cops have a 40% accuracy rate iirc.

And yes, it's hard to kill yourself in jail/prison. One of my longtime friends works as a prison guard, and he's told me a few of the protocols they use for suicidal inmates. I know one where they wrap your arms and legs so you can't move at all. They basically Hannibal Lector your ass.

For America, I guess the US Govt doesn't like it when prisoners take the easy way out. Since slave labor is legal when used on inmates as per the 13th Amendment of the US Constitution. I don't know how it's done in other countries.
