Part of me completely understands it, but part of me thinks that they're so interlinked that there's no difference.

What do you guys think? Would you say you want to die or would you say you want to not be alive?

Yes. I would say I want to live in another way. No one naturally wants to die and most of the time we're just unsatisfied and sick of where our lives are currently going.

To me, there is a difference. I think that many people would rather live but their life circumstances mean that it is impossible for them and they feel like they have no other choice but to ctb. They do not want to die, but they would choose death over their life situation. Many of these people likely once enjoyed life and things got worse for them and they became suicidal.

Then there are other people who hate existing and really want to be gone more than anything, they want nothing to do with life. That is how I feel. Nothing could ever make me want to live and I see life itself as being the problem, I see life as something so horrifying and I prefer the sound of non existence. I actually do really want to die.

Dying being your only way out is different from wanting to die. A 'want' and a 'have to' aren't the same. One RARELY wants to do something they feel they have to.

More thinking out loud then actually commenting
You'd think if someone wanted to die they wouldn't have a problem with SI. At the very least to a lot lower %. I mean for any other "I want.." things, if you really want it you probably aren't going to be stopped. And wanting to doesn't strike me as a result of MH. It strikes me as someone that is 100% mentally well and just doesn't want to live. While having to would be due to MH/abuse.

Imo, probably the process of death is what most people anxious about. But afterall when things are out of control, you still got no choice but to face it. Sooner or later, suicidal or not. 😣
