Because I no longer want to beg to be loved in return. I'm tired of having to text first and strive to maintain the connection. My feelings were never seriously considered, and my presence was never irrevocable. I will leave the person I loved most after my birthday this month. Because I want to have the false feeling of being understood during my birthday, and I don't want to endure the pain of being alone and unloved. I will say everything I always wanted to say but never could for fear of rejection, and then I will leave, letting go of the only love I knew in my youth.
The strong don't insist; strength lies in leaving behind what no longer serves us, even when we want to stay. It hurts to hold on, it hurts to let go. The meaning I created around this relationship was an inheritance left by my former self. And I will have to destroy within myself precisely what I would have died to preserve. Renouncing a love that never existed is one of the greatest pains.
