I guess the only way to truly test it is to tie the ligature to it and then pull down with your weight? Either it will be strong enough to hold or it will break - that's your call though. I've seen stories about people using their ceiling fans but you never know how it was installed and how strong it's fixtures are

Easiest way would be to just hang with your hands. If the fan can hold you up that way, it will with a rope. Keep in mind, if you are tying the rope to just one blade, you would have to hold on to just one blade to make sure. Also, if it does hold you up, don't use the same blade with the rope. You may have weakened it.

Going to say, I highly doubt a fan would hold up 240lbs.

Edit: Never mind the power tower. A simple ceiling mounted pull up bar like this would be better because it's higher and cheaper to make. You may need a stud finder and drill, but both can be had very cheap. I would use the bar, and not just one eye-bolt. I don't know if one would hold up 240lbs.

I had tired hanging with my hand to test. Although I'm only 50 kgs so it was never going to be an issue for me. I'd suggest you to try hanging for atleast 1 minute and even swing a little just to make sure it doesn't brea.

I doubt a fan can hold that much weight. Unless you live in a country like India, you can't count on a fan being sturdy enough with the way they're affixed nowadays. Fans in the U.S. especially are infamous for being pulled out of the ceiling just by any significant weight, so even just testing would be kind of risky.

I have tested two kinds of fans similar to the one below, they are very strong as they need to be bolted seperately so they don't drop on you and can hold a 13kg man, don't know for how long, lol but I was tugging on it for 10 minutes.

Well, I indeed am from India. This is what my fan looks like. (the brand is USHA, a common indian brand of fans. No idea about the model.). I tried to look for it, but i could not find any weight capacity specifications.
Why do you say that unless I am in a country like India, I should not try hanging from a ceiling fan ?
I there something about Indian fan fixtures being strong enough to hold heavy people long enough to be a useful ligature-tying point ?

I see. I only fear that in case the fan is unable to hold my weight and falls or breaks, I wil have a lot of explaining to do to the people I live with. This holds me back right now.

Don't do it. Please.

Just 20 minutes ago I saw the til tok of a girl who ended up paralysed because of this.

Ceiling fans are too risky. Really not worth the pain and effort.

Your body needs to hang 20- 30minutes after you pass out (to make sure you're dead) and this just can't be guaranteed with a ceiling fan.

At this point, trying to make your own anchor would be more safe honestly

This is a much better idea. I wouldn't expect the fan to hold up. Then you also have a broken fan and a failed attempt.

Ikr? I made a post a few days ago just to vent about how absurdly scary hanging actually is. I spend hours on the floor starring at my anchor asking myself why can't I just... push the chair?

Trust me even if you find the perfect anchor it won't be easy.

I think hanging cannot be planned. I think one can only do it after a shock more violent than the pain of hanging (obviously).

I don't even think the issue is fear of pain because I honestly influct horrible physical pain to myself on a regular basis (stabbing, burning..). I think the fear is of dying, actually... (I'm surprised at how scared I am of dying. Makes no sense).

I wouldn't attempt it on a ceiling fan. I feel like that happens in the movies, but not in real life. They are supposed to be fixed into a stud (or beam) so they don't fail but are you able to be sure the fan was installed correctly? Also, the fan wasn't made to hold body weight so even if installed correctly, it may still fail. Where would you tie your rope onto the fan? Putting weight on a fan blade will bend the blade until it rips out of the fan, a fan blade wasn't designed to hold much weight at all. Don't do it. That's my advice.
