Worndown is right. You should put as much as pressure possible. There's no other way of doing this. You'll start to pass out once the necessary pressure is reached, which is by tightening the knot and maximizing the pressure as much as you can.

It sounds like you need a different set up if it can break when you apply pressure. It should be able to hold more than your weight
