First the question is what type of Metoprolol you have, the fast acting one or the slow one. The slow one is less likely to do what you want it to do. The other thing about Metoprolol is that it just isn't that deadly. There's a good chance you'll be gasping for breath and suffer all kinds of cardiovascular related issues and pain/severe discomfort for days before you finally decide to call an ambulance... Either that or you die. That's the issue, it isn't really a surefire way of killing yourself. Can it be done yes. Is it reliable absolutely not. You are right that the ld50 is 7.5 grams, but that allows for huge variance. It's possible that in your case you'd require 12 grams to kill yourself and even then it isn't obvious what kind of death awaits you. It's more likely to be a slow and agonizing one than a quick one.

Not trying to discourage you, it's just that I'm in the same boat, I also have the option of Metoprolol overdose since I'm sitting on 10.5 grams here. And I would strongly recommend against it unless you had no other way.
