How many true friends would you say you have?

Personally I feel like I have 1 maybe 2 genuine friends. I know plenty more good people that I keep in touch with but I feel like only 1 or 2 people are actually there for me and will support me through almost anything. There's also a lot of people that I consider my friends that just don't talk to me very often which is one of my criteria for being a 'true' friend. I still appreciate those people but I know I can't count on them any time as they have their own busy lives that I'm not as much a part of (which is totally ok). I'm thankful for the people I have in my life but I do wish I had more than 1 or 2 true friends.

2 true friends, 3 acquaintances that I'm on very good terms with. I separate friends from acquaintances by a measure of loyalty, selfless helpfulness and frequency of time spent together. Having compatible social chemistry is the bare minimum, as a matter of fact.

Out of curiosity, but what is your exact criteria for a "True" friend?
Tbh I have always had problems understanding this. I think I never had one, I mean there was a friend that I thought: "If I had a 'Best friend' it would be him". Unlucky, because our friendship fell off lol (my fault).

I'm not sure, my first thought is to say "none", but I don't know if that's completely accurate.
I've had connections before but it usually ends up one-sided either from the other person or from me.
I think there's probably 2 people who I'm completely comfortable with and trusting of, but they're so busy I don't get to talk to them much anymore sadly.
I do like that you specify, "true friend", there are many people I could refer to as a friend if I wanted to, but I don't really like or know them well enough that I actually consider them as such.

I have several friends irl, people that if I really need help they are there. Of course it goes both ways.

I have a couple online friends.

For quadraped right now I have The Lunatic, Cindy the cat, and the neighbors 4 goats. They have no idea who owns them and I share a property line with them.

None. I really miss holding hands and hugging my friends in middle school but it's not something I could ever do again with all my self-loathing.

I don't try to maintain or even start a connection with people anymore because I'm scared of anything beyond superficial or surface-level interaction. I also don't want anyone to know that I'm trash so I don't like sharing any information about myself in real life. I just tense up when people probe for deeper than my name.

I don't even think I've spoken with "real" people for years. Just family, people at the gym/stores, the doctor, and such.

I think I am extremely privileged so much that I have a guilty conscience to post it on here. I have I would say 5-7 good real life friends. And I am really thankful for that. I am good at finding and keeping friends. But I am horrible when it comes to finding a significant other. Many on here are way better than me in this instance. I am also way too much of a mess sadly.

I never really had genuinely close friends growing up. I always felt kind of used and replaceable. When I started university about two and a half years ago, it was the first time I experienced what felt like real friendship. Like having someone who's actually there for you and who truly understands you on an emotional level. I honestly think a lot of people can only understand that kind of depth if they've been through something similar themselves. It's really noticeable how some people who grew up very privileged just don't seem to have that same emotional depth.
Another close friend came into my life through university as well. But I feel incredibly guilty because I feel like I've affected both of them deeply with my attempt…

I don't think you need to feel guilty for being privileged for having good friends. It's okay to acknowledge the good things in your life. And being "a mess" doesn't make you unworthy of love. A lot of people struggle with finding a significant other, even if they seem like they have everything else figured out. That doesn't mean there's something wrong with you :)

I would say that I have a good friend group, and of that friend group, I would say that I completly trust 2-3 of them. But it's gotten to a point where I feel I've... 'outgrown them'? Its not like they're bad people. But just talking to the same people in an area where there is not a lot going on drives me a little mad.

hmm... i'm not trying to validate my situation or anything so i can look or feel a certain way. but when i actually think about it, online, at school, my hangout spots, even at home... i don't really have any friends who are actually "friends." like, what even is a friend? do people we just know count as friends? do you have to be in the same club or group or doing the same stuff to be called friends, which would just mean we're kinda forced into being friends, right? i've never felt like anyone genuinely likes me, romantically or platonically. i always feel alone. physically or emotionally it's the same... if i went missing for a whole week nobody would look for me. maybe to me, someone who'd actually come looking if i disappeared is the only person i'd call a real friend. here, i'm not anyone's main friend, just a friend-of-a-friend, whatever. i just exist as someone whose role doesn't really matter. sorry for rambling, and the site's been down since yesterday so i've had a lot bottled up, lol​
