How long does it take to pass out from hanging?

For me the only option looks like hanging. Oddly, I prefer that than shooting myself.
I wonder how long you suffer before you lose consciousness. I wouldn't be doing partial suspension, I'm not sure I could pull it off. Though I'd prefer it, it seems difficult.
