tbh one of the only things that gives me hope is community activism, community political engagement, and reading political theory. for me, my suicidality has forced me to cherish the small things in life and to be more empathetic to the people around me. i want to be a part of a world where everyone, by virtue of simply being alive, has access to safe housing, good food, clean water, and people that love them. i want to be part of a world where it is okay to slow down, think, feel, and live, not merely survive. i think politics, especially leftist politics that move beyond capitalism, is the best avenue for that. :3
You and me have very similar thoughts.
I believe we need a society that establishes the conditions where each person can become the best version of themselves. This logically necessitates abolishing all forms of class oppression, class politics and prejudice, a society based in an egalitarian democracy in its purest form that serves the common interest.
We have never had any sort of "Democracy". When people use that term and apply it to states in the current world, they are using a fundamentally flawed interpretation of it - Western States are Capitalist Class Dictatorships; IOW Corporatocracies with political and electoral systems designed to serve corporate interest. The "choices" presented to the people serve this class dominance, and don't serve the common good. So it's fundamentally anti-democratic societies that are hubristically and self-righteously calling themselves "democracies"
What democracy means in its purest form, demands a classless society, a society where decision making is participatory and serves the common interest of all without any form of class interest or prejudice, a society where the means of production are controlled by and for the needs of the people to serve the common good. At its roots, Democracy demands an economy that is entirely shaped to serve the people in general on an egalitarian basis, without any form of coercive apparatus either from a class society or a state. This is in essence what Communism means, and that's what I strive for.
Realistically though, I'm a Socialist who wants to achieve that end goal of Communism, which means that achieving Democracy in its purest form is an end goal that we strive for. Communism means pure democracy has been achieved and Stateless exist. Socialism means we develop all the conditions for that end goal. That involves the significant use of a state apparatus that can put in some useful measures to facilitate developing the conditions of a participatory and egalitarian organization of society at the community level - effectively trying to create the conditions that make the state less useful, by making community empowerment more viable. A state during this period is also usefulf for providing a constitutional justice system that protect this more advanced and broad expression of human rights for all people as an intermediary, as well as military protection against any other power that wants to abolish this development. In short, it takes a lot of time and the right geopolitical conditions to achieve full communism.
It's striving for this goal, keeping myself informed and reading a mix of theory and political science grade analysis of current events that gives me something to live for.
It doesn't change the fact that i experience immense despair within the current confines of our deeply prejudiced society that gives a rats ass about neurodivergent people.
I am very opposed to politicians who outlaw MAID. And I support healthcare, including mental healthcare for all.
Completely Agree
