if you have someone suffering depression from a breakup which in time they should be ok with therapy and meds to the person suffering uncontrolled pain and anything in between how far should you or others including professionals go to prevent a suicide

Anything possible to get them to therapy. No psych ward. No antidepressants. Especially antidepressants (I've taken those).

If a breakup is the only issue, I don't think suicide should be the thing that happens first.

I think you'll get some pretty mixed responses to this question. Honestly I'd probably talk and listen to the person, if it was extremely clear that they were only acutely suicidal and never at other times then I'd probably at most offer some support and urge them to seek help. But its nobody's place to force help upon somebody.

If its true the person is ready to act on their suicidal feelings I'd assume they have some deeper issues or that their priorities are different, I can't force someone to lice because they don't meet my standards for being miserable just as I'd hate anyone who did the same to me.

I think I should probably give my opinion I know some people will agree and some will disagree. I feel that suicide should be the final solution after everything else has been tried if you try everything and it doesn't work then I say it's ok remember suicide is final and you can't go back

That is pretty much my opinion too, yes.

I used to prevent it, now I'm for it. I'd never tell someone to do it though. If it's someone close to me I would talk them out of it, like I have for my mother.
