Probably too late for an answer you probably needed immediately. And I don't know much about makeup tbh, all I could suggest is maybe try liquid foundation and match it to your skin color, and be prepared to use a lot of it so one area isn't clearly distinguished as being covered with makeup. I think the easier option is to wear a scarf or high collared shift/jacket if you have one while around people, or just avoid people as much as possible.
For a good excuse... I honestly have no clue. Try to change the topic maybe or just avoid it and maybe no one will mention anything unless it's super obvious. If worse came to worse you could lie and say you were attempting hanging cause of the trend where people claim to get a high from doing it.
