It's a beautiful poem. I think the idea is that we are not our corpse. We are the memory that others have of us which might visit them in moments of transcendence. They can think of us when contemplating beauty in the natural world.

I think its about the Author telling those who are left behind/family of the dead to not feel bad or sorry for him being dead as he actually isnt dead because since we cannot experience anything when dead we are in no pain or worry, his physical body goes back to nature and his mind is free from even knowing hes gone so he tells them do not weep for him as he's doesnt exist .

Thank you for sharing. I do not fear death at all personally, in fact I look forward to it, but it is a very nice poem. Death is freedom from everything and I think that the poet is telling people not to grieve for them as they are now free.

Do not stand at my grave and weep" is the first line and popular title of the bereavement poem "Immortality", written by Clare Harner in 1934.

False hope of an afterlife is what it sounds like. I don't even care, it's just going to be over. I guess not having any consciousness is scary but at the same time being conscious is overrated. I hope my suicide note goes public and the people who messed up know it's their fault and everyone else knows too. That's my dieing wish.

This poem is powerful. Moved me quite deeply, I wish I had a better understanding of what to tell the people left behind.
I feel like this is as close as I could come to express myself.
I hope that this is the poem read at my eulogy, if there is ever a chance to have one.

Thank you so much for sharing this.

Hmm.interesting. You reminded me of a poem they read at Bobby Kennedy's funeral. Its an old poem about an ancient Irish warrior, slain by the British. ( You dang Brits!😉)
Anyway,it takes a different view, quite mournful and even bitter. Death is so horrible to those left behind. Here's a couple of lines. The title is "Lament For The Death of Eoghan Ruahd O' Neil"🙂

We thought you would not die,we were sure you would not go
And leave us in our utmost need,to Cromwells cruel blow
Sheep without a shepherd, when the snow shuts out the sky
Oh why did you leave us,Owen, why did you die?
Your troubles are all over, you're at rest with God on high
But we're slaves,and we're orphans...Owen why did you die!?
