Hi everyone. This is my first post, but I've been lurking for a while now. I've been reading various posts and megathreads to help plan my CTB method which will be charcoal burning. Here's what I have planned out so far:
Supplies:
=====
- rental cabin with bathroom
- 4 kingsford chimney starters
- 4 steel buckets
- 4 cement slabs/blocks
- a lot of kingsford charcoal briquettes (20 lbs or more)
- a lighter + paper for kindling
- towels and gorilla tape
Method:
=====
1) Book a cabin with a bathroom (or a small enclosed space) for 5 days or more. I'll seal up all gaps & vents in the bathroom using towels and gorilla tape.
2) Burn the charcoal using 4 chimney starters. Let charcoal burn evenly for about 60-90 minutes, until it reaches a glowing red-hot state.
3) After charcoal is glowing red-hot, transfer into steel buckets.
4) Bring steel buckets into bathroom and sit in the room, taking normal breaths.
5) Hopefully pass out and CTB. If I survive, redo the process if I physically am capable to.
Points I'd like to mention:
=================
⬤ I'm currently searching for a remote cabin to rent. I'm avoiding AirBNB because I'm assuming they have cameras and that the renter will keep in contact with me during my stay.
⬤ I thought about using a tent or my car, but I'm afraid of people/park rangers/police finding me. I live in a densely populated area. Also the weather is unbearably hot.
⬤ I'm also thinking about purchasing a malawi tent and setting it up inside the cabin if using a bathroom is deemed insufficient or unreliable.
⬤ I'm using 4 chimney starters to increase the amount of CO which hopefully will be enough to kill me. And the reason why I'm using 4 buckets instead of a large basin is so if I survive but am weakened by the failed attempt I'll hopefully have enough strength to empty the buckets and start over as opposed to lugging a large, heavy basin outside.
Questions:
=======
⬤ Will using 4 chimney starters worth of charcoal be enough, or will it be too much and have adverse effects (if that's even possible)?
⬤ I've read that some people use a pan of water as a heat catcher. Can someone elaborate?
⬤ I'm not an outdoorsman. Are cabins as air-tight/insulated as say a house, as in is cabin at least insulated enough to not let CO seep through the walls?
⬤ If someone could reference me which malawi tent I should buy I'd greatly appreciate it. I saw malawi mentioned but don't know which one I should get. I live in the U.S., so if you know of any other tent brands I'd appreciate the info for it.
⬤ I've read that it's better to get in with the charcoals instead of letting CO build up, and to avoid sleeping right away so I can take in as many breaths as I can. Also I read to avoid drinking alcohol or take sleeping pills. Thoughts on this?
⬤ Just curious; ideas/plans on how I can CTB via car without getting caught. I live in an apartment complex so no privacy.
⬤ How can I buy SN? If charcoal burning doesn't work, I want to have SN as back up. I live in the U.S.
⬤ Silly question, but would covering myself with bags of ice help cool me down when I get in the charcoal room lol?
⬤ [Edit] If I cant obtain SN, how lethal is mixing cleaning detergents and which detergents mixed together is most lethal?
Thanks for reading this.
