the concept of a "happy place" is basically a meme at this point for anyone who is mentally ill but hear me out. I created a space in my mind where i can live in when its safe for me to do so when i'm alone and its one of the only things that bring me peace. When I'm alone the way i decompress is getting in a meditative sort of space where i can imagine myself in a totally different life. I'm a big animal lover, and i especially love African wildlife. sometimes i just imagine Im taking a rest protected and cuddled up next to a gorilla family. no human in sight, just being part of a gorilla who trust and love me and we get to rest in the wild lands. maybe this is not totally scientifically accurate but if God is real and creates a heaven for me it would look like that. My pets where the only ones who seemed to show any compassion on me as a child, and my pets now are one of the only reasons i even bother being alive in the first place. humans are nasty and vile, at least the ones i seem to be in contact with lol.

I experience something very similar. Sometimes, reality is too much to bear and I make-believe situations that could never be real. Most usually its not a "place" though. I could just do this for hours on end, consciously avoiding reality by immersing myself in unrealistic, highly idealized situations. I think it's called maladaptive daydreaming, why not look into it? I think it does explain what I experience, perhaps this is what you're referring to.

sorry i never got back to you on this! usually i do a body scan and totally relax my body while keeping my eyes closed and lay down in starfish position on my bed. Idk how spiritual you are and idk how much you would buy into this but i started doing this in an attempt to create a tulpa that would guide me and comfort me in times of distress. i don't know if i fully believe it myself but i was desperate and desperately needed support. anyways i took some inspiration from the practices behind tulpamancy and created an inner world i could escape to when i needed relief. if you have any more questions feel free to reach out via pms or on this thread! im glad you were interested in my advice <3

No problems! I was just noting my openness to any more you might wish to say on this, haha. No problems at all for any delays--it's never too late! C:

anything a person does for themselves that genuinely eases them--in any way--that won't harm; is perfectly rational and righteous :)

I might be a materialist; but I perfectly validate the conscious aspect of those who are spiritual--because their experiences are human, and valid. The matters of explanation and the reasons we assign into our worldview for them, to me is sufficient to take a backseat, to the genuine humanity that needs to be addressed in matters such as this. That is, a person's genuine peace with their life and a specific aspect of it, something that aids that; is, to me, more important than the ideal of the "perfect, wholly rational" worldview. As a friend of mine once said. "There exist infinite truths; but I only have one life."

you seem so sweet and insightful! i totally agree with what you're saying i think thats a very emotionally intelligent take to have! if spirituality helps i see no wrong even if i dont see their pov with it.

perhaps it really can help to create a more peaceful dialogue in yourself, a thought practice that I imagine would quite certainly help to ease one's self overall

same. for a little under a year i've been creating a place in my head that's like a little 'home' of the people i love where we all live together in community. it's familiar to me by now and it helps when i feel overwhelmed.
