I think the optimal caliber for that would be a 12 gauge shotgun, as they're relatively cheap (500-900 USD), and they destroy everything. i like the Mossberg 500 pump action because of it's reliability.
any handgun chambered in 9mm or larger is pretty reliable for a temple shot.
Overall, it's up to you to find the balance of reliability, comfort in the hand, etc.Similar threads
