helllloooo hello everybody!!! i have returned from my spain trip!!! i am now onto the most exciting part of my program (and the part ive been waiting for): ctb !!! i already know i want to use a firearm, and going to a shop is no issue for me. i have a lot of gun stores in a short radius of me (thank uuu midwest!!!) and i'm old enough to purchase my own firearm. i have a clean record and funds to buy it, so when i say im asking for 'help', i don't mean in obtaining the gun itself. the problem is…

i'm fucking embarassed!!!

i've never been in a gun store, know absolutely nothing about guns or even how to properly hold one. couldn't tell you how to load it if i tried. doesn't help that i look the fucking part, too. hello kitty on my keychains, mini cooper car, lots of jewelry and pink, painted nails etc. you get the idea. oh and i look like im fucking 16 years old. so automatically ppl r gonna b like "?!! what the fuck does she want a gun for?"

my question is.. how do ppl act in these stores lol. i feel like im going to stick out like a sore thumb lololol. i was thinking maybe i go to a place like Dicks or Cabelas or Bass Pro Shops where the worker is prob some dumb teenager who is half awake and drooling out the side of their mouth so they wouldn't really question me because theyre focused on making sure i can't smell their leaking Muha Med in their pocket or just order it online to have it shipped to the store?? anybody who's worked in a store like that or frequents those shops plsss lmk like do they get weird asf in there…. i've been holding this off for awhile now bc im too scared to buy one lol!! thank youu:)

This is how you behave. Do exactly this when you walk in.

Minus the very last part, of course.

No, but seriously, this is what I would do. Talk to the shopkeeper and tell them you're interested in buying one for your significant other since They're a gun nut. You're not sure what to buy and you'd like some of their input.

Just go to a shooting range and tell them you know nothing about guns but want to become a gun owner. I'm sure they gladly help you and train you in the basics for a small fee.

Me too. I did go in once. Said I was a novice and interested in handgun for home defense. From there they were helpful.
But I just talked. There is a range for lessons. I want a lesson and thinking of Glock g17.

Interested in advice of others too.

i'm thinking i might start w some lessons too to get more comfortable with holding it. the problem is i can't really say it's for home defense because i just recently turned 22 which would put me at new college grad age, which definitely means i don't have my own house. also, what 22 year old has their own house nowadays regardless!! i'm thinking i say im buying it for my dad, which is legal in my state. i just have to fill that out on the form when purchasing

I would get nothing less than a g22. It's chambered in .40 and is known for its stopping power, just to be on the safe side. My choice would be the g30 or a shotgun though.

I'm w orried about recoil on those. Just going by what I've read. But the extra power is tempting

I watched a video before I went to a gun store. Helped me get confidence in what to do. Just do research and watch videos and you'll get an idea

I never got to the point where I actually made a purchase. Only went in one time to browse, also made conversation with one of the workers. I feel like it would have gone smoothly if I went back, but life circumstances prevented me. I don't believe they would act suspicious and interrogate you. They want you to make the purchase so they make money. You'll find more answers from research.

You will prob have to tell a worker what firearm + ammo you are looking for. Also, even though these guns should never be loaded, always assume they are and never point one at anyone.

I also have a question, my drivers license address doesn't match my actual address. I never updated it when I moved. I moved within the same state. I just never got around to doing it.

Will this cause issues when they do the background check and when I fill out the paperwork to buy a gun?

Act like you belong there. Have a purpose in mind (specific firearm) and know something about it in advance so you can ask relevant questions (price, caliber, how to operate in general). Check the registration rules in your state so they don't catch you by surprise. Have answers to basic questions ready (what do you plan to do with the firearm....I plan to take lessons from an instructor and go to the local shooting range). Have a good idea of the general scope of what you need to purchase in advance of going there, like the firearm itself, a carrying case or box, perhaps practice ammunition (non firing snap caps) and be ready with reasonable replies to anything that might be asked of you.
