Hi everyone,

I went to my docs to try get some benzos (which I have now) in the meantime I was given some sertiline antidepressants on the label it says do not mix with grapefruit juice haha.

Looked into it apparantly it can cause serious side effects like sudden death, heart attack etc etc etc.

Has anyone heard of this before ? Just out of curiosity.

Yes, grapefruit juice and antidepressants (and most psychotropics) inhibits same enzyme CYP3A4. So taking them together can increase level of active substance in your bloodstream.
At least in theory. I tried them together and I didn't notice anything.

The warnings are more just in case something happens. Like @deathenvoy said, some people won't have problems. It's just more as a cautionary measure

Some sodas have a citrus extract that is the same. I've only had it happen once, it was from soda, thats why I looked it up. Tried it again later, no noticeable effect.
Junkies tell eachother citric acid will enhance effects of street drugs, but that's wrong, not all citrus fruits|drinks have the right substance. Also blood orange contains it.
That's all I remember.
edit: shit, bergamot, not blood orange.

grape fruit juice causes it to absorb it into the blood at a faster rate ..so, it will increase their dose in blood to unsafe levels.

It inhibits your p-glycoprotein which helps get stuff back out of the blood-brain-barrier thus protecting your brain and cns.
