Funeral or Celebration of Life ?

Personally, I've told my best friend that when I die… do NOT grieve me. Celebrate me. Celebrate me getting out of this hell hole. Celebrate who I was, and who I get to be. I want dancing and drinking. Funny memories of me shared.

I don't want a pity party. Just have fun…

I would say celebration of life but if one is to CTB, I doubt many people will be in a very celebratory mood. I'm sure a lot of people would be to sad and devastated to think about anything then how sad it is what they "could have done".

Very true… although those feelings will fade. I don't think a celebration directly after the incident would be appropriate for most family members, but eventually , sure

I honestly never liked funerals because of the finality which is why I have never been to one personally even for family.

I think the experience is just too much to deal with emotionally.

I remember one of my choir teachers back in high school stating that there were "celebrations of life" like you described and it greatly piqued my interest.

Exactly .. "because of the finality" .. that's why we never had a funeral for my mother. Maybe her mother did out in CT, but back home we just cremated her and that was that. To me, she's still alive.. somewhere..

Suppose it depends on what you did in your life and how you died if it's a funeral or a celebration. Personally I would want it to be like a rave in that funeral hall so all the guests have at least 1 positive memory about me. I'll also have some crude cakes made in my design with some dark humour shit and make the party more elaborate than my dream for a wedding. I guess my suicide note will double as a party plan...

Neither. I do not want the only 2 people who love me to waste a single solitary dime having a "celebration of life" for a bunch of people to show up at and act like they are "devastated" I'm gone when they've only ever seen or spoken to me a half dozen times in the last 30-40 years.

I want them to take the money and property I leave them and go do something FUN. Something they've always wanted to do but maybe thought they couldn't afford. Remember the good times; make more good memories for yourselves and let the rest of the world forget me. They never really cared for me anyway. These 2 though, they would move heaven and earth for me. And that knowledge alone is enough for me.

I've given these instructions to my sister if she outlives me.

Cremation
Cremains paced in the cheapest container
Burial in a plot my parents bought decades ago
No service, preacher, relatives, etc.

Since she will inherit everything I have, I hope she honors my wish.

Personally I prefer the word "funeral". To me, "celebration of life" seems like trying to water it down and put a smiley face sticker on death. I could see having a "celebration of life" for a pregnancy or birth. Just my probably unpopular opinion.

Ive heard that before. I agree, celebration of life would be more appropriate for a child birth.. like .. "welcome to living! Let's celebrate!" But dang, who would want to celebrate this?? The elite??
