a friend piqued my intrest recently with mentioning that you can use poisonous flowers as a way to poison yourself and die. I'm not a botanist, but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on the effectiveness of certain flowers/the peacefulness their death would bring?

I'm interested in brewing potent poppy seed tea to CTB. It's causes a morphine overdose so I imagine it would be peaceful.

There are some very potent plants/seeds/fungai that can be very deadly, one issue is the dosing. Even within the same species, some specimens will have more of the active compound then others. So if I'm researching something like this, I look up what the active ingredient is that poisons you, see what the lethality of it is, then see how much is in the plant.

Taste will also be something to consider and may cause more nausea. Masking it somehow would probably be a good idea.

Then the side effects. From what I've read, some are definitely not peaceful. Although usually it's abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea. Basically whatever your body can do to rid of the poison. Which circles back to my first point of dosing. Whatever the lethal amount is, triple or quadruple it lol.

I think it would take a lot of research and I'm not sure how many are just lying around but from what I have heard a lot of poisons can end up taking a while and being SUPER painful. As a side note this is how Chara dies in Undertale, fun fact.

very interesting read- i will definitely take it into consideration!

good point, that does introduce some reliability issues-
Taste will also be something to consider and may cause more nausea
usually it's abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea
these side effects don't seem too bad, in my opinion- definitely manageable given the right resources

definitely a lot of research, it would probably be quite fun though. my main concern is purchasing the flowers, as it might end up being easier to get than SN (although potentially more expensive/less reliable)

Most of these plants are not illegal to own or grow, some are quite beautiful and are frequently used in gardens.
Water hemlock
Oleander
Deadly nightshade (Belladonna)

These are just a few of many available. From what I've seen online briefly, the seeds can be purchased but not the plant themselves or the berries (in the case of belladonna, the berries are the most poisonous part of the plant). One that doesn't seem to be so common are "pong-pong" seeds. The tree itself isn't poisonous, just the seed kernel. It mostly grows in SE Asia and supposedly just one kernel is lethal. The tree is called the suicide tree lol. A couple of the above also cause convulsions and I'm not really sure how long until death. With pong-pong, apparently 3-6 hours. Lots to read about, it's kind of interesting actually, so many modern medicines are from very dangerous compounds found in these plants but they're just synthesized and dosed properly to treat certain ailments.
