Hello Sanctioned Suicide! I have a question! Do any of you have favorite films about or containing suicide?

Some of my favorites are:

"Tokyo Sonata" directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa
"Battle Royale" directed by Kinji Fukasaku
"The End of the Tour" directed by James Ponsoldt
"Snowpiercer" directed by Bong Joon-ho
"Birdman" directed by Alejandro G. Iñnáritu

I'm particularly interested in films directed by women, but any good film is heartily welcome!

Then there's always Girl, Interrupted. Although not about suicide specifically, there is a suicide in it.

I actually liked the serie "13 Reasons Why".

Films:
"Foreboding" Kiyoshi Kurosawa
"Dead Poet Society" Tom Shulman
"Leaving Las Vegas" Mike Figgis

And of course
"The Virgin Suicides" Sofia Coppola

The first season of Thirteen Reasons Why f*cked me up!!!!! I coulsn't stop crying for HOURS. There were SO many things I could relate to in the show and it made me all my eyes out. Ugly, choking, red in the face kind of crying. It was to the point that I actually had to leave the house and go for a ride just to get away from it for a minute.

I'm watching Humbling with Al Pacino at this very moment... just be forewarned--starts out a little slow.

Harold and Maude has a suicide which is treated as a good thing. The main character is also obsessed with death.

I might suggest Veronika Decides to Die from 2009. Harder, though, is to find movies that are pro-choice with regards to suicide.

That's a good one, but damn you for beating me to it by 27 minutes.

Yeah, I enjoyed that one and totally didn't see it coming.

Thelma and Louise.

They choose to drive off a cliff rather than get caught by the authorities.

Heathers... kind of. No one actually commits suicide but it is a theme.

Also weirdly the original of The Little Mermaid. She kills herself in the end.

Me Before You is another film to watch. It is a story of a person who becomes a quadriplegic and then later the quadriplegic chooses to die instead of living on in his condition and predicament. With no surprise, pro-lifers are all up in arms over the film promoting voluntary euthanasia over continuing to live (in a shitty state of life).

I love this movie. I can't even put it into words. It just resonated with me the same way the 1st viewing as it did the 20th viewing.
