My father in law took a cocktail of my grandfather-in-law's sedative pills and went into a deep slumber. My mother-in-law found him and called an ambulance. He's on a respirator now at the ICU.
The doctors say he took enough to tranquilize one or two elephants. Not sure how true that is, but he'll be in a coma for the next 2-3 days. If he survives.
I tried the same method once, to a much much lesser extent. My wife held me down so I couldn't actually take anything. My FIL really seems like he wanted to catch the bus.
I don't know how to feel. I know him of course, but was never super close. I don't want him to be in mental anguish, but he hasn't tried anything at all to get help. I don't want my wife to lose her father- we aren't even 30 yet. I'm a hypocrite for saying that too, I know what it's like to want to catch the bus. I know that getting help takes time before you start to get better, and I'm not sure he wants to wait that long. Especially since he isn't happy with pretty much anything in his current life. No hope.
