That's horrible! Was this a partial hanging? Perhaps you should look into something more stronger. Those shibari/bondage ropes seem to be the best choice for a ligature.

Please please make sure you use something that will hold your weight (stronger than a shoelace). That failure could've ended in brain damage had you hung a little longer.
