Hi,

I have looked through posts here on FSH. i am new so unfortunately dont have search facilities yet so apologies if these questions have been answered.

Long story short i had a failed FSH (rare i know), wont bore with details but i didnt manage to fully kick the breakfast bar stool over I was using. I was only hanging for about 3 seconds before i put my foot on the base of the stool and got back on it. I'm pretty frustrated at the whole situation obviously, not even sure it was a conscious decision but i will say although it was only 3 seconds it wasn't the most pleasant (i wont give further detail as not wish to scare monger) and was likely my brain / bodies natural survival kicking in. Annoying after spending so longer researching (probably too long to not kick a stool and manage to hook onto the base).

Anyway....lessons learnt....im still determined & have a few ideas but dont wish to put myself through another disaster so am looking for ideas on what people think. The anchor beam in the garage is very secure so i have no worries there, i have room to drop the height and use a much lighter stool (ive brought a stool that is 53cm & very light to kick) the first was 75cm & heavier. It means the rope is obviously longer. One difficulty i did have which i also believe lead to me not being able to kick over the stool fully was once my head was in the noose and i pulled the self tightening knot i obviously had slack in the rope. i measured my head at the widest point (across my nose) and my neck and its nearly double the different in cm (nearly 30cm) , plus i had to account for getting my head in the noose etc. It left me in a dilemma of how much to i bend my knees to drop - i found a middle ground but did feel i took quite a drop (realistically it may or may not have been that much but obviously not a nice feeling). If assume if i choose this point again (plus putting head in noose first), theres noway of reducing or getting rid of the 'slack' as have to tighten to neck. I just wanted to clarify i'm not missing something?

An alternative i would prefer (probably due to my recent experience) is to already have my neck in the noose and tie to point (so point is much nearer), i would be able to do this. But where i live wall height is only 230cm and im about 168cm and standing on a 53cm stool, pretty much leaves no room - not the biggest problem in the world and i wont have to drop again to the same extent which is what i would like to avoid (and high enough that i wont hit the floor). But i would have to put something secure in the wall that i can ensure hold my weight, which is were my concern comes in. Ive been looking at push up bars and short arm boxing wall brackets etc that would hold min' of 100kg ( im about 60kg). Ive put some attachments - these are just ideas and nothing Ive brought yet. It would be going into a brick wall and i wont use the bolts that come with such equipment but buy much more secure ones. What are peoples thoughts about putting things in the wall for FSH - apologies i haven't seen any posts on this?

When looking at research journals, most state the person is unconscious in 10-15 seconds with FSH. I was preparing for that, but ive watched many videos where people seem to be unconscious within a second, ive tried exploring why this is but no luck. Maybe just hit the right spot straight away? My rope placement was high up, under the jaw, knot at the back and i made sure it stayed there as i dropped. I did speak to an AI bot about hanging (i dont trust AI) but it told me this ( i cant find anything in journals to verify if this is the case or not so wondered if anyone had any ideas) - so it said 0-5 seconds is the period of acute sensation where body goes into fight or flight and pain is felt the most (so where i was). It then said 5-10 seconds that the brains ability to process pain narrows due to blood flow to the brain being restricted so in turn it 'feels less painful'. Then around 15 seconds unconsciousness. Basically i didn't have the nicest 3 seconds and wanted to know if i was conscious for say 15 seconds would the pain be the same as the first 3 or would it be worse. AI has said it will decrease (well will 'feel' like it deceases) - i understand the logic but AI also talks some rubbish. Ive been looking in pathology / forensic journals and cant find an answer either way. I guess its hard to know as most people who do FSH are not here to say. I would feel much better if i knew all 15 seconds werent like my first 3 seconds and just wondered if there is something being what AI is saying or its wishful thinking.

I wondered if people had any thoughts on any of the above (also can i politely ask, the situation is pretty raw and could i ask not to hear any horror stories....). Thanks so much.

Sorry to hear what happened, sounds like you were well researched and quite determined. I could well have been your bodies natural reaction re the stepping back on the stool. The worry of not being able to kick the stool has crossed my mind, it sounds like you were unfortunate.

I'm not of much help but literally could have wrote the remaining post myself. I think you might not get the answers because people just dont know- in the sense most people don't survive so can't give the answers.

What I would suggested if you are looking at putting a push up bar or something in the wall is, do a shorter post and ask about that. Its something I have been thinking about myself (I do have a point set up but its quite a drop) and also prefer the idea of putting my head in the noose first and then to bar (which i know isn't the norm). I dont think ive seen a post about push up bars in the wall etc only when people have asked about partial hanging, I do think it's worth reposting and asking suggestions about what you could be put in the wall - i think that would get answered. There's a few people on here that know there stuff. I think the idea sounds good but worry as haven't seen people discuss or post about it. So don't want to give bad advice.

I also have the slack in the rope problem (hence why I'm thinking id rather put something secure in the wall and head in first). Realistically, it's still your full body weight, off the floor, rope in the right place. But like I suggest, maybe repost and just ask about the push up bar (head in noose first), hopefully someone could help you out.

Honestly, im also confused by the videos I've seen too - i spent ages knot tying, looking at rope positions and finding the right points and ive seen videos of people using rags around there neck and throwing it over a ceiling fan in a very loose way but loose consciousness in a second. I also have seen more videos where people are unconscious nearly instantly as opposed the what science says which is around 15 seconds - i don't have an answer but feel your confusion.

I dont know about the 'feeling of less pain' as oxygen reduces, makes sense and maybe some people do experience the most pain initially and maybe some the same throughout. It could be individual. I think the area is quite unknown as obviously a successful method so one with many questions that can't be answered.

I haven't been any help but wanted to say it sounds rough. But like I say, I would recommend, finding some bars to put in the wall and repost and see if you get anything back.

All the best!
Ps I've just looked at your pics again - ironically, ive looked at the first bar myself (I cant remember the website begins with an M). If it's the same bar - it's doesn't go on the wall - it's an add on to a push up rig system. I liked the look of it but then found that out. So won't go in a brick wall basically.

The others are what I would be sort of what I would be looking at but don't want to give bad advice if not ok but I know the top one isn't for wall but part of rig system.
