In my case I do not care whether I am liked or not, I know for certain there is nothing likeable about me. Other peoples thoughts and opinions do not really matter to me. At the end of the day this life is all meaningless and insignificant but I'm sorry you feel this way. I wish you the best.

I might like to think I am liked online, but truth is people will mostly see your profile picture. And then they will check if they agree with you or not.
And you can almost never achieve that connection to other people online, although I doubt I ever felt that connection anyways. There is too much to be shared to achieve It and It would overwhelm anybody.

It's ok. I don't really feel cared for or liked here either but that's been my whole life and I don't really know how to or feel comfortable getting close to people. I also don't feel like I deserve it at this point. At least I don't feel like I don't belong here. I hope you feel a little better

Benefits of being liked:
- You get laid and pass offspring
- Less likely to get murdered or tortured by other humans
- People do stuff for you, and if you are really popular they will literally serve you
- Have people to relate to, vent, and quench the biological necessity of communication

Considering how many areas of our desire being liked covers it could be argued that being liked is the quintessential goal of a normal person. This is why social engineering works so well, in 2022 they have even achieved an overlap between being responsible/smart with voluntarily surrendering fundamental rights to the government. Nobody wants to stick out as the dumb science-denier!

People don't like me either—at least not at first. But I seem to grow on them after awhile, like mold. Or barnacles.

In my childhood environment, I was universally despised as the scapegoat of my family, then an easy target for bullies throughout school. I have rarely felt 'liked' ever since, though it is easy to see why. Also keep in mind we will tend to notice negativity more than positivity because it confirms/aligns with the childhood experience. I'm going to guess it is a similar story for you and many others here. Just be mindful of the true origin of this feeling.

I always blow people off who contact me in 1 on 1 conversation, but it's because I just don't have the energy for the private chats and prefer the message board format. I hope none of them took it personally as if I didn't like them.

It might be the case for your attempts to socialize as well since so many people here are depressed and anxious.
