This seems to be an option for those who have histories / are nervous of other antiemetics. However the PPH lists it as just Dramamine - the original formula (without Meclizine). So I'm wondering which the best version is to act as an AE - with or without Meclizine? Thanks.

It doesn't list the original formula as in 'dramamine original'. it just has it as a picture. It mentions the drug as dramamine

the original is an anti emetic

Dimenhydrinate is an antihistamine used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness

Dramamine is used in the treatment of motion sickness; nausea/vomiting and belongs to the drug class anticholinergic antiemetics.

there is also a 24hr version that has an added ingredient

Meclizine is used to treat or prevent nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness. Meclizine is also used to treat symptoms of vertigo (dizziness or spinning sensation) caused by disease that affects your inner ear.

BOTH are anti emetics

EDIT i found this information

Meclizine prevents nausea and vomiting by reducing the activity of the center in the brain that controls nausea. It also prevents motion sickness by reducing excitability of neurons in the motion and balance center (vestibular region) of the brain

On another note, seen as an OTC anti-e is suggested a sa a possible alternative, I would say that points to the fact that the chances of vomiting are very slim. I mean if it was insisting on a prescription anti e , you might think wait a minute, but seen as the are relaxed and offer a lot less powerful than prescription medication, i'd guess chances are slim.

Thousands of little old ladies have drunk this substance and not had an issue, they don't even hardly pull a face!!!!!
Thanks yes I tend to agree the importance of an AE maybe overstated, if I were to use a Dramamine one it would be the Dramamine w/ Meclizine

well thats upto you , i found this information though actually which might help.

In an evaluation of 16 anti–motion sickness drugs, Wood and Graybiel found that dimenhydrinate 50 mg was more effective than meclizine 50 mg

I'm going to order METO aswell personally now i know a stat dose you won't get the side effects, the EPS that people were so worried about takes 24hr to show up:hihi:

EDIT the drug recommended in the PPH is dimenhydrinate, so you want the dramamine that contains that substance not another substance!!!!!

I don't actually know if the meclizine would work or not, but as it isn't listen in the table of the PPH i wouldn't risk using it, they are the ones with experience. and as i posted dimenhydrinate>meclizine
