I've seen this thread and always wanted to write something, now it's so long.
I personally open up to people easily. I wouldn't recommend treating friends like therapists, and you need to show some effort that you are trying to do better, but sharing problems is something that is important to me. If somebody doesn't accept that, that's fine, that's understandable, but it's unlikely we won't be besties or partners. And that is okay.
It's tricky. You can't meet something and give them a list "here are my problems, you need to be aware of this otherwise we won't get along", it will scare people off/ At some point you'll "need" or feel the need to open up. If a complete stranger openeds up to you, it's different from a close person that opens up. That's just how it is. We can't care about everybody, it's almst like some defensive mechanism.
Just my 5 cents. I prefer to open up and will continue to open up to people, in a reasonable manner.
