I guess maybe music is the most forgiving when it comes to repetetive enjoyment. For me anyway. There's that weird sweet spot when I've listened to a current favourite song enough times to thoroughly appreciate it, before overlistening it- which is almost inevitable with my very favourites.

I'll happily put series and films I know well on in the background repeatedly although, I probably won't enjoy them quite so much to intently watch them again.

Games are different though and, I really wish they weren't. Once I've played a game through, it loses so much if I return to it.

Is it the same for you? Or, maybe it holds the nostalgic charm? There are two games that I wish I could play right now- but like it was the first time I experienced them: 'Spiritfarer' and 'Eastshade'. Not that I should be playing games at all at the moment! I have work to do. I'm just procrastinating.

But, are there games/ films/ music/ books/ whatever- that if you could, you could experience as for the first time? Places too actually. Some feel enhanced by repeat visits while others start to feel boring.

Not that I go out much now but, when I did, my best experiences were sometimes when I did no research, so had little idea what to expect.

sometimes when i need to feel certain emotions, i like to re-open mangas i've already read just to re-read one specific part (often emotive and intense moments). similarly, i like to rewatch certain movies/tv shows scenes every once in a while, some of them just hit a sweet spot in my brain that makes me cry or give me that tingle of emotion.

it rarely happens to me with places though. i don't really get the chance to visit places of my past

I think music is designed to make you want to hear it again and again~ hehe~

Anyways, yeah, I think I tend to repeat playing the same stuff a lot~ Mostly Wii and Gamecube games! :) or watching the same stuff a lot~ My interests are really specific, so it's hard for me to find things I'd like otherwise~ >_< I don't tend to re-read stuff as much anymore tho~ I kinda realized that my favorite types of books are easy fiction tho~ xD since they're not so serious and feature kids in prominent roles! :) I just wish I could convince myself to read them more, but I've generally read manga too, altho I wouldn't be surprised if I've read most of the good stuff either~ >_< I really don't know about books! :( I wish someone could like the same things as me and guide me with media ngl~ xD but well, nobody does! :(

I do that too- I listen to the same rain type soundtrack to go to sleep in the hopes it triggers my brain into sleep mode.

Oh no- that's really unfortunate to hear about your playlist. I suppose that's the trouble with music. It can bring back nasty memories and emotions, as well as good ones.

I watch a lot of the same series over and over again. Evangelion and Bojack Horseman get an annual watch from me lol.

Same with music, except i like, hyper-fixate on a few albums at a time, then get burnt out and repeat the process after a month or two.

Yea i do go back to replay my favourite games, a lot for their nostalgia but as time passes that i am feeling less of that cus of feeling more and more empty. I mostly go back to the little big planet games and spyro 1 and 2 and Plants vs Zombies. Maybe put some extra challenge to it to make it more new like for papers please i did a run where i couldn't use the approval stamp and another for not using the deny stamp and detaining anyone (they are both possible to win with a good ending) Or if the game allows different strategies or builds like dark souls then thats another reason for me to play them. Of course I wish i could experience very single one of these games for the first time but thats honestly just with everything in life cus everything feels lesser when you repeat it.

Yes, I like to rewatch certain TV shows and reread books I really love. Ive watched Merlin by HBO about five times now I'm planning to watch it again later this year. It's been a while.

There's a childhood book I brought with me on a vacation that ended up becoming permanent. By that point, I'd already read it about seven times. I was only allowed to bring six books with me (and, for once, I actually listened to my mother and did as she asked) and among those six were two that meant the most to me.

I'm lucky I brought them, because I never got to see the majority of my books again because they were destroyed in a flood :p

So rereading actually saved me from shedding a lot more tears.

Yep, certain games I play through a few times at least sometimes more. Final Fantasy 7 Remake 5 times, The Last of Us Part 1 6 or 7 times, Gears 5 7 times, The Last of Us Part 2 4 times, various Call of Duty campaigns multiple times, there's more those are just some of them.

Good movie, I have watched it loads of times too. Sad that you can't watch it again because of the dog, I know how gutted I will be when my doggo passes, he knows all my secrets, listens to my rands and only asks for a piece of my breakfast in payment. Dogs are by far the best therapists (IMHO)

Current go-to movie is The perks of being a wall flower.

I only play one game, (osu!) and you can pretty much play it indefinitely although I do take a few months break after playing for a month or two, mostly due to life.

I don't watch many films or series, but when it comes to books, there are some I've read twice, and one I've re-read about four times. I actually just finished my latest re-read and will probably pick it up again in a year or so :)

I think if you really love a book, it's worth reading at least once more. I really tend to miss a lot of details the author probably spent hours, days, or even months putting in, getting caught up in the rush and excitement of the plot. While re-reading I don't get that rush and impatience to know what happens next, so I can just slow down and appreciate the details and enjoy the book in a different way!

I'll listen to music more than once but rarely play a game, watch a movie or tv, or read a book over that I've read. There's too many that I want to see or read to spend time on past ones. My wife is the opposite and it is baffling to me.

Yes, listening to familiar music is nice when trying to learn (Classical or instrumental).

For games, many I play have near indefinite replaying, for games that don't I'm unlikely to play it again.

And for books I really recommend rereading them, it's a personal favourite of mine to reread some.

I almost EXCLUSIVELY listen to music I'm familiar with and watch TV shows/movies I've already watched. I have a lot of songs from even 10 years ago that I still listen to daily, they never get old for me. To give an idea of how much of a "repeater" I am, a song I discovered in June (by the same artist that I usually listen to lol) now has over 500 plays in my library!

I watch a lot of the same series over and over again. Evangelion and Bojack Horseman get an annual watch from me lol.
Nice to see a fellow Bojack enjoyer, there's probably a lot of us on here. I must've watched the show through some 30 times by now lol, though there are some episodes I always skip on rewatches (namely That's Too Much, Man!)

I've been replaying life is strange recently, I really love that story and the soundtrack is so nice! I like replaying games, there's often cool sections and information I miss out on in my first play through. But yeah I do think they can tire more quickly than other mediums because you have to be more actively engaged. And if the gameplay gets boring it can often feel more like a drag than a fun revisit.

I find myself often going back to TV series I know I enjoy even when I want to watch something new that I know I might like. It's fun to look out for little details I may have missed, but I feel like overtime its harder to find shows that still return me the same feeling because of how I think differently at different periods in my life I feel like a show's messaging and themes don't age as well in retrospective. I really this show called pantheon and I have re-watched it so many times, it always gave me this existential dread at the end, but recently I feel like it lacks deeper exploration into some of the main themes. Especially how it tackles how companies control and shape society, the ending isn't as anti-corporation as it initially presented itself as and it's geopolitics is quite surface level. But other shows I've watched don't have as many things that I nit pick about.

I used to read a lot, but it is a bit difficult to find books that I might like and I have difficulty describing genres. I found myself going and re reading the same books over again. A couple book series I really like are 'Remembrance of the Earth's Past' by Liu Cixin (I'd really like to experience this for the first time again) and the 'Children of time' series by Adrian Tchaikovsky, growing up I really liked the Chronicles of Narnia and His Dark Materials (juxtaposing messaging i know T_T). I'm quite a slow reader so revisiting books happened over a long period of time which is probably why I it never bored me.

Honestly I don't really enjoy rewatching/replaying media I've already seen or played? If I do there has to be a long time interval between when I've seen it to where I decide to see it again. I have less desire to reingest something I've just seen.
Unless it's music, which can play back to back to an extent.
So like I have more desire to rewatch a childhood show rather than rewatch a new show I just finished watching, which I enjoyed but wouldn't want to spend energy watching it again so soon.

I guess in general if I already know what's gonna happen then I have less interest rather than when I have fragmented memories of something and deciding to see it again to refresh my memory

Music is definitely something I have on repeat. Lately I've been mostly listening to Chelsea Wolfe, Ethel Cain, Purity Ring, Radiohead, and Wolf Alice

TV shows are what I tend to re-watch over and over the most. Some more in the background while doing something else or to fall asleep to. I have "comfort shows" I always end up watching multiple times a year whether I want plan to or not.

My favorite shows that I repeat the most often are Hannibal, Arrested Development, Community, Lucifer, Agatha All Along, Schitt's Creek, Yellowjackets, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, The Good Place, Dexter, Fleabag, Killing Eve,The Originals, The Mick, Twin Peaks, Once Upon a Time and some others I'm sure I'm not thinking of.

Currently I'm rewatching Schitt's Creek. Such a great show.
