I think one of the most isolating things is not having friendships etc but what if you knew some-else who was depressed this might be great?

Most of my friends are depressed or even suicidal. Everyone else has left. Only those who understand my struggles stay with me because they can share their deepest, darkest thoughts with me as well. It is good to be able to talk about it without being judged, but it can also be a bit suffocating because almost every conversation ends up being sad in one way or another.

basically the only friends i have are depressed. all my non depressed friends are the ones that helped my parents make me depressed soooooooooo. the good thing about depressed friends is they understand you. the upsetting part is watching them struggle and doing as much as you can even though its not always enough.

None of my friends are depressed. Earlier this year I met a depressed girl and tried to be her friend, but she decided I needed to be destroyed Instead. Now I think I'm done even trying to make new friends.

Yeah but she's currently ignoring me and I don't know why and it sucks but maybe she's too depressed. Can't help but feel it's me though. Which is just great for my depression!

Yes, three of my friends struggle with varying degrees of depression. It's kinda nice because we can all relate and support one another.

I mostly had non-depressed (not cronic, at least) friends most of my life, but i had one friend that was heavily depressed, but kind of in a different way than me.
I enjoyed talking with him for hours. Suicide could be freely talked about, and most of the dark sides of our personality, but i also couldnt stand being with him too much in a row (meaning 1 hour of direct contact would burn me, and also remind me of how i probably burn others the same way). I loved him much, but we ended badly.

I also long for depressed friendships xD but from the desire to connect. If i look at it reallistically, in my case, i believe we would burn up from the inability to fill our friendly needs, or deal with our social awkwardness

Being surrounded by other depressed people isn't as great as you'd think. My whole family is mentally fucked up. My abusive mom having schizophrenia gave my siblings and I all depression and in High School I just tended to gravitate towards other depressed people. It all seems well and good until you start realizing your just burdening them further by trying to vent about how you feel. Like I got in touch with a close friend from how school to tell her I was suicidal. She told me she was suicidal in high school and just reminded me just how much i'm not helping her by burdening her with my problems. Not having friends is isolating but not being able to talk to any of the people in your life about anything might be even more isolating.

I avoid friendships at all cost. But yeah I've met other depressed people.

The only other properly depressed people I know are on this website. In my personal life I don't know anyone who has genuine depression outside the usual off and down days people have. I also don't really have many friends so not many people to compare it to.

Three of my closest friends are struggling with depression , so is my son, my mom has BPD, and I know about 12 from my former therapy group with diverse diagnosis

People come to me telling me about their problems and offloading all their baggage of mental turmoil onto me. But when it comes to me trying to open up to them they wont give me the time of day. I know people who are depressed but I don't have friends who are depressed. Friends are meant to be there for each other.
